HAVANA — A few days after President BarackObama’s historic visit to Cuba, an arguably bigger rock star played Havana.
Hundreds of thousands of Cubans flocked to a massive sports complex in central Havana on Friday night for a free Rolling Stones concert that some compared to Woodstock.
A festival atmosphere prevailed at the show, with thousands sprawling on blankets in the grass and some stripping off layers of clothing in the humid Havana night. Many climbed fences and crowded onto nearby rooftops to get a better view of Mick Jagger and his bandmates, who kicked off the show with a booming version of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” one of the band’s earliest hits.
“We all wanted to be at Woodstock,” said Nilda Dominguez, 60, who said that as a teenager she struggled to get her hands on music by the Stones and other bands because Cuba’s revolutionary leaders looked down on rock music. “Tonight is the best.”

Maya Angelou, the African-American poet who is one of the most influential and respected literary voices of the modern age, has written a poem praising Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign for The Observer.
Angelou, author of an autobiographical series of books, including the international bestseller I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, was moved to send the verse after being asked by the newspaper for her reflections on Clinton.
She is supporting Clinton despite her close friendship with television personality and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey, a prominent backer of rival Democrat Barack Obama, the first black presidential hopeful with a real chance of reaching the White House.
Angelou is steadfast in her loyalty to Clinton. She said recently: ‘I made up my mind 15 years ago that if she ever ran for office I’d be on her wagon. My only difficulty with Senator Obama is that I believe in going out with who I went in with.’

As the standoff between right winged followers of Cliven Bundy in Nevada comes to an end, one has to wonder, who is behind this madness? Is this a poor farmer standing up to a big oppressive government or is there something even deeper than that?
According to various sites, Bundy is being used as a pawn by the Koch Brothers:
Koch Groups Back Rancher Making Violent Threats Against Federal Gov’t
Cliven Bundy: right-wing extremist domestic terrorist lawbreaker
Armed Right-Wing Militia Members Descend On Nevada To Help Rancher Defy Court Order
Right-Wing Media Eagerly Promote Cliven Bundy and His Anti-Federal Faceoff
Right Wing Terrorists Poised to Spark 2nd American Revolution
The Bundy Ranch, OathKeepers, and the Koch Brothers…the 1%’s revolution?
The same people who are blaming President Barack Obama for this fiasco also called Occupy protesters communists, socialist, stinky, unkempt and hippies. Even though Occupy also protested against President Obama, these people hate Occupy.
The difference between both the protesters in Nevada and Occupy Wall Street? Not one member of Occupy promoted violence. As a matter of fact, Occupy never demanded the dismantling of the government but to take it back from the right wingers and corporatists. They also told Occupiers not to bring firearms to their camp while the folks in Nevada are armed to the teeth.

SEVASTOPOL, Ukraine (AP) — Russia on Saturday was reported to be reinforcing its military presence in Crimea as Moscow’s foreign minister ruled out any dialogue with Ukraine’s new authorities, whom he dismissed as puppets.
Vladislav Seleznyov, a Crimean-based spokesman for the Ukrainian armed forces, told The Associated Press that witnesses had reported seeing amphibious military ships unloading around 200 military vehicles in eastern Crimea on Friday night after apparently having crossed the Straits of Kerch, which separates Crimea from Russian territory.
He also said a convoy of more than 60 military trucks bearing no license plate numbers was headed from the eastern city of Feodosia toward the city of Simferopol, the regional capital.
The amphibious operation appeared to be one of the largest movements of Russian military forces since they appeared in Crimea a week ago.
Selenyov said AP: “Neither the equipment nor the paratroopers have insignia that identify them as Russian, but we have no doubt as to their allegiance.”
