In April 2008, I retired from my job of 20 years and moved some 800 miles away (from San Francisco, California to Vancouver, Washington) to move into the first home I’ve ever owned.
One of the things that struck me about my new locale is that it’s a temperate rain forest. I am head over heals in love with the trees, the seasons, the Columbia Gorge and yes, even the rain.
I kept a blog called movingsuz for the first year of my adventure. With this blog I hope to continue my love affair with Portland/Vancouver and the Pacific Northwest.

Hello…my name is Theresa. I currently live in Northern Virginia. My father and his side of the family are from the Seattle area, where i spent the first part of my childhood. My grandparents owned a house on Elger Bay, Camano Island. I enjoyed reading about your time there and very much enjoyed the pictures. Their house is still there, although sadly it is no longer in the family. It is the first house on Elger Beach Lane. I have so many wonderful memories of my time there as a child and miss it terribly. My dream is to one day live there again. I just wanted to thank you for sharing. Isn’t that video of whales just breathtaking….what a magical place. Take Care.
