Who we are…
Established in December 2009, Static Mass Emporium is an independent film journal based in the UK. We are looking at a broad range of work from the industry – with research grounded in film history and theory, the philosophy of film and not least modern cinema.
Write for Static Mass!
We’re always looking for volunteer researchers and writers. If you have something to say, are passionate about writing and film, we’d love to hear from you…
We are passionate about exploring the “essence of film” as a unique, and one of the youngest, forms of storytelling. Striving to go beyond the entertainment value of “movies”, we ask how films reflect on our experience of the world and ourselves, and thereby apply a very personal perspective.
Our authors have something to say. Their articles – reviews, essays and thematic features – discuss movies, documentaries and soundtracks in the context of their personal experience but based on their film studies; many of our writers build on related university degrees or professional careers in the media industry. Through their work we seek to inform, educate and entertain.
We are a non-profit publication free of advertising — sustained entirely by its readers, fans and supporters. We are proud of a growing team of volunteer authors, researchers and correspondents who contribute to Static Mass sharing their unique thoughts, experiences and ideas.
Get in touch!
We are supporting charitable and non-profit enterprises that focus on film, film education and related subjects; we’re there to help and collaborate as much as we can. If you would like us to support your project do get in touch.
Please bear in mind our editors and writers are volunteers throughout so you will have to give us a little time to assess and discuss your proposal. However, if we are able to cooperate, we will do our best to accommodate your requirements.
Any collaboration should be based on reciprocity so please only contact us if you are prepared to support Static Mass as well, in whatever way possible e.g. mentioning us where appropriate, or donating a small sum to help funding our research and keep the site free of advertising.
Please note all proposals will be discussed and assessed by our editorial staff, and we do not guarantee to accept a proposal. Please also read our Terms & Conditions.
Support Static Mass
If you like what we’re doing and want to support our work please don’t hesitate to contact us. We also appreciate donations that will help the journal to last, keep it ad-free, and expand the scope of our work.

JESSE’S LOST JOURNAL
by Mark Patton
Jesse’s Lost Journal was conceived as my subtext writings while making Nightmare on Elm Street 2. I stay true to the film until late in the game and then bear off in a new direction, bringing Jesse up to date and letting you see he is quite alive and doing just fine...
