Call for Proposals for SourceLab, Vol. 6 (2025-2026)
DEADLINE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2025
For development during the Fall 2025 semester
SourceLab is digital documentary publishing initiative sponsored by the Department of History at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. We train students to create reliable, open digital documentary editions of digitized primary sources, in response to the needs of teachers, researchers, and the public at large.
We present each source’s origins, provenance, current archival location, and publication history. We also investigate its copyright status and establish stable citation framework so it can be used in scholarship. We stabilize digitized materials in the online world, to help make sure they won’t go away. All of our editions are peer reviewed by our Editorial Board and outside reviewers, to ensure their accuracy and scholarship. They are licensed as Open Educational Resources, for free use, and published through the Illinois Open Publishing Network, the publishing arm of the University of Illinois Library.
Have you found a source on the Internet you’d like to see produced into a stable, scholarly edition for teaching, research, or public history? Have you digitized something for your own research that you’d like to share with a wider audience? Please let us know about it. We’re now seeking new projects for development by students this coming Fall, as part of our course HIST 207: Digital Documentary Editing. We’d love to create an edition that suits your needs.
