In the past two years, it has been rare for ANYONE to attend any out of county conferences or trainings. Unless the conference or training is part of a special fund, the only conferences or trainings we are allowed to attend are within the county.
I have been okay with the decision as I’ve able to attend some great conferences in Dallas, Seattle, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, and New York. I have also been fortunate to attend several conferences here in town.
So, color me surprised Thursday morning when I opened my e-mail to find an invitation to attend a free training. I oversee a program and the company who is granting the program has asked someone from location #2161 to attend their training. The company came out in last October and trained our staff, so all I had to do was make sure the managers were using the program and deal with “The Bitch” from corporate and her visits. The company who is giving us this program wants a trainer at all of their locations. And our location does not have an on-site trainer.
I was even more surprised to find out where this training would take place.
ON A FUCKING CRUISE SHIP!!!
Of course, I had to clear this with “The Boss.” She thought it would be a good idea for me to train the managers and keep corporate out of our business.
I called “The Bitch” to accept my invitation and then the company to complete the paperwork. I was told I would need a passport. I have one, but later found out it expired and required a new one.
So, the last week of July, I will be driving to Miami for a 5-day cruise. I am required to give up 10 hours of my entire time on the cruise for training. Hello, I think I can do that! There are only two ports; Key West and Cozumel. I don’t care. Hello, it’s a free cruise.
I cannot believe companies do their trainings on a cruise ship and that I would be asked to attend. My mom says I deserve it for all of my hard work and commitment to my worker-bees.
I concur with MOM. I mean, Mom knows best.
