1. APARTHEID – legalized, institutional, racism. The political system that ruled South Africa for many decades giving whites, by far the minority, all the political and military power over all other persons of all other races, by far the majority. (Yesterday)
2. ADOPTION – the legal adoption of my two sons at birth – both of whom are black. (Today)
3. BEYOND – my life before children, our lives together, and what happens when all that somehow comes together and sometimes clashes. (Tomorrow)
“Yesterday Today and Tomorrow” was one of my father’s favorite trees. It grows in the tropics and sub-tropics. The flowers transform from deep purple to lilac to white quite independently of each other giving the tree a splendid array of color. All three colors bloom at once.
