[…] The Godless Celebrities – Naomi Wood I have to acknowledge the plot, characterisation and the writing wouldn’t really do a huge amount to urge this to me. The ideas explored in the novel do lift it for me personally. Detective Ishmael (an African widow ), to the course of the killer (considered to function as a black guy ) of a young white girl – it’s essential, politically, he is successful, goes into Nairobi to investigate the offense. Initially he discovers himself regarded as a guy by the folks. Making friends he can get his way. But what lifts this novel is the evaluation of white liberal guilt (conscience-salving charity, that does little to alleviate the problems) along with the racist elimination of bureau from local folks. Maybe me touched . This does lift the novel. If some non-fiction with this particular topic ’ d much better serves you, though one does wonder. The first in a set of four books featuring Miranda Popescu, a young woman who’s… Read More […]

I suspect you will discover that you’ve read some RAH and not registered the name. He was an astonishingly varied writer and wrote a lot.

Just one correction: women’s aren’t valued for being babymakers alone. Wyoh is actually sterile after having a deformed child. What they are valued for is being family makers in a world in which the family is pretty much the only welfare system.
I’d also note one thing you missed: this is a novel with a disabled protagonist. Manny has one arm missing and it really does matter at one point.
Otherwise seems a reasonable take. I love Heinlein but sixty years or so is a pretty damn good run, and if he is wearing out, so be it. He has, however, left his prints all over the genre in both action and reaction.
A very different novel you might want to try is The Door into Summer.
