Singular Sensation
About
I am a writer and a photographer. My illustrated opinion blog, “Single for a Reason®” began a year and half ago and recently won a national award (National Society of Newspaper Columnists) for “eloquent irritability”. (I’m not kidding, it’s in the write-up for the award.)
So, be forewarned, I’m opinionated with a good vocabulary. So, it shall come as no surprise that I have some opinions on photography as well, and in particular, on how to photograph flowers and other animal, vegetable, minerals and humans that fascinate me. You may not agree with these opinions and that’s fine. I’m not putting them out there for debate. They work for me and me alone. And, if they happen to spark something for you, I’m happy.
We love what we love and, sometimes we can even explain it, but, sometimes not. Visual imagery speaks for me when my eloquently irritable words fail.
I continually found myself having to fight the urge to post “just one more” flower photograph or just one more blurry photograph taken through my car window on “Single for a Reason” as I simply love these subjects.
So, I begin this blog “Singular Sensation” and shall post as many of these lovelies and some not so lovely that I think worthy of your time and give you a Photographic Tip of the Day that you can use or ignore as you choose.
My tips on photography I hope shall help you in taking better photographs of what you love. If you are fascinated by something, chances are you know something about that something that no one else knows. Photography can let us in on the secret.
Tip #1: Sometimes you have to break the photographic rules to create singular sensations and expensive lenses really, really help. But, expensive glass does not make up for an indifferent eye.
I facebook, I twitter–towards what end I’m not sure–but I am never happier than in the early morning or late evening, around twilight time, when focusing in on the gifts of mother nature. Now–that wasn’t irritable at all, was it?
