And it may totally crush Sims 4 as well. I give you… (dramatic pause)… InZoi!
So, what exactly is it? As best I can tell, take everything about The Sims 3 & 4, and make it all 10X bigger and with much higher resolution, and there you go.
You have a fairly big city to play with, and most of the lots in it can have their buildings fully modified, customized or outright torn down and changed. If you don’t see the texture or design you want for something you’re building, there’s an AI generator to make it for you. 😮
Characters have some pretty amazing detail control in the character creation process:
Zois in this game are it’s “Sims”, and the character personality traits / motivations thing is pretty similar to The Sims, as the trailer shows. If readers missed it, there’s also a “big picture” mode that allows you to manage your Zois and the city on a larger scale:
The game is still an “early development” release at this point, which I refer to as paying for the privilege of beta testing, but it shows a great deal of promise. New features are being added regularly. It’s likely going to be a while before it catches up with all the specialized content that The Sims is known for. No signs of haunted buildings, or the ability to study magic. I’m not even sure there are pets in the game yet, at least at the same level as The Sims’ expansions.
This game shows ALOT of potential though and is one I’m going to be keeping a CLOSE eye on. At the very least, I believe it will beat my one game killing complaint with The Sims 1 & 2 when I played them; it felt like watching fish in a bowl. Fun at first, but it got stale, even with the ability to actively try to guide a sim. InZoi looks like you can actually step into the characters’ skins by comparison.
This is long overdue, and I swear I’m starting to feel like Oliver on Arrow with his “It’s Complicated” line regarding my absences, LOL.
Sorry Ollie, the truth hurts, LOL.
Long story short, I was hammering the job hunt like Thor entering Wakanda, LOL. Lots of applications every day, phone and video interviews, occasional in-person interviews, etc… As it happens, I even ended up with 4 job offers. I took one that was an entry level management position. No, it’s not fast food either. 😝 That’s all I’ll say since even here I’ve had a couple of stalker incidents. The pay is so-so but the company seems to have a good culture and I’m hoping this will lead places. At the very least, it helps me rebuild an employment history and get some management experience on the books.
I did my best to at least like or reply to others’ posts while not writing here. The need to do something to change our financial situation just wouldn’t allow more time spent here though. The nice part is there’s light at the end of the tunnel now, AND it doesn’t seem to be THIS situation:
Overall, my stress level has dropped tremendously, and that should be a great thing for my writing. Stress created mental blocks have always been a far bigger issue than time itself.
What I see going on politically drives me nuts, but I want to avoid that rant. Likewise I could go on for 20 pages about what a nuclear disaster the job market AND LinkedIn are right now. THAT will be coming soon in another post however. Anybody contemplating looking for another job needs to know what they’re in for.
And the Blogs Themselves…
My collection of blogs has become an unruly mess at this point. This one has turned from writing into social commentary and personal updates, the spiritual one has been inactive for… maybe 4 years? Maybe more. I only leave it up for proof that I authored content at the date posted.
I moved the erotica to a separate blog so as to avoid offending any of my more religious followers, and ultimately they all left anyway, LOL. I tried to move that blog to a self hosted site so I could be a little more naughty than WordPress allows, but then the new laws hit regarding “adult” content on websites and age verification. Everything was reported vaguely and that put the brakes on things as I waited for the dust to settle.
As best I can tell, the laws apply to sites that display actual sexual content (ie porn) as opposed to erotica or simple nudity. Essentially the same rules that WordPress has.
With that in mind, I’m trying to work out a plan to merge all the blogs into one. Erotica would be posted as new pages instead of blog posts, so that wouldn’t show up in anyone’s email, thus preventing NSFW issues. It and the spiritual stuff would effectively be compartmentalized, leaving the main body of the blog for commentary, personal updates, standard fiction / creative writing, etc…
I’ve had a few followers threaten to bale on me if I had any sort of adult content on the blog. Ironically, I think they’re all gone at this point. Either way, over the past… several months I’ve realized I’ve spent far too much time trying to accommodate everyone instead of being true to what I wanted to produce here. It’s caused me no end of stress, esp when it seemed unappreciated, and more importantly it impacted the quality of my writing. There isn’t a single post or story on my blogs that I’m not capable of doing 10x better. My goal moving forward will be to show what I’m truly capable of.
It’s been one of those weeks, so I need to pat myself on the back a little despite disliking these prompts.
Bing dropped the ball generating this one but I didn’t feel like fighting with it further.
Best Regular Compliment Received:
A teacher saying he couldn’t have scored as high as I did in the entire program he taught after I got the highest scores ever. It was meant as a compliment not an accusation.
Best Bedroom Compliment:
“Oh my gawd, what did you do to me?!?”
OK, perhaps a bit tacky to point out, but I’m trying to work myself back up for writing erotica again, without any of the mental blocks that impacted my previous writing. And besides, I heard it on multiple occasions. 😮😁😉
That goes even for you poser Irish out there, LOL. After all, as the joke goes, everybody is Irish on St Paddy’s Day.
I’m the black sheep of the authentically (part) Irish, I suppose. Everybody will be bragging in their blogs today and tomorrow about their corned beef and cabbage. Personally, I’m NOT a fan.
Blasphemy, you say? Perhaps. You might feel the same way in my shoes though. My family thought the correct way to cook corned beef and cabbage was to throw everything into a pot of water and boil the hell out of it. Everything lost it’s flavor, but the fat off the corned beef partially melted and made everything taste greasy.
So yeah… There yah go. That’s not to say I haven’t done corned beef before. I smoked one on our grill years back, along with other meat for meals later that week. You can see THAT post here: Meatzapalooza.
For those not inclined to see the meal, it turned out good overall but the corned beef was over-brined and somewhat too salty for me. It cooked up perfect otherwise:
The next day, being a contrarian, I had to do something different with it for dinner. I didn’t feel like an ornate meal. So, what DID I end up doing, you ask??
Corned beef sandwiches with coleslaw and Havarti cheese on pretzel rolls with fries.
Viola: Corned beef, cabbage and carrots (in the slaw) and potatoes (fries). Untraditionally traditional. 😁 How’s that for clever? LOL
Today we’re doing alot of cleaning around the house and are planning on salad for dinner. Sometimes you’ve just got to break the rules.
In Other News…
My personal “got spammed” record here at WP was broken last night. 56 likes in 2 minutes. I’d name and shame, but they don’t read others’ blog anyway, LOL. Besides, you almost have to admire the effort behind the desperate cry for attention. If you’re going to spam you might as well go all out, right?
That also helped bring my deleted emails folder up to 4,768 deleted emails. 😯
So why am I just now hearing about this for the first time?
First… Gawd does Jack Chan look ancient. 😦
I have to admit, part of me loves the idea of Jackie Chan working with Ralph Macchio. How well this movie works for me is REALLY going to depend upon the script though. So far I have some real doubts. The basic premise seems to be that this Kung-Fu prodigy kid ends up needing to learn Karate from Daniel. The trailer makes it look like the standard Karate Kid theme also; to stand up to bullies with the final fights being at a tournament.
The reason I object *IF* this is the plotline is because the kid is already apparently a kung-fu expert, which leads to the inevitable implication that kung-fu isn’t good enough so he has to learn and use karate.
I object to that premise because I firmly believe that “which art is better” is largely BS. It’s FAR more important how hard a practitioner trains in their individual art, and the physical condition they keep themself in. I could go off in the weeds about the exception being when an art is watered down to keep a commercial dojo flourishing, but again, that’s another rant.
Chinese martial arts predate Japanese ones by at least 1000 years. Some sources say quite a bit more. My personal opinion (based on my own experience and training) is that they take longer to learn due to their depth, but are otherwise extremely effective.
This kind of “my art is superior” schtick has been around in martial arts cinema for ages, and it’s gotten a bit tired to me. It’s been almost a trademark of Chinese movies for ages. A good recent example is the Ip Man movie series. It’s always the foreign bully oppressing the local Chinese until Master Ip comes along with his superior kung-fu and strong Chinese virtue that allow him to overcome the evil villains. I loved the movies for the well choreographed fight scenes and the overall story, BUT I still see the pattern.
We’ll just have to wait ands see how the movie’s plot unfolds I suppose. After all, it’s possible that the kid is actually cross training to become the next Bruce Lee, lol. The brief scene of him brooding with the black eye doesn’t make it look that way though.
I should have worked this in earlier, but the movie’s story is set one year after the end of Cobra-Kai. It’s not yet quite clear if this is a passing the torch movie as is implied, or if Ralph Macchio wants to keep his career going and not let Johnny Lawrence have the final spotlight in the Karate Kid universe. 😀
Me personally, I’ll cross my fingers, hope for the best and prepare for the worst.
Recently, Mercedes put out a fairly silly commercial comparing their new suspension and body control systems to… a chicken of all things:
The implication being you’re not going to feel any movement.
Jaguar responded with a commercial that’s as dark as it is funny:
Yes, the Jaguar is CGI, as is the chicken.
Aside from thinking the Jaguar commercial is a pretty funny burn, I do find it amazing how little advertising truly says about products anymore.
Kia definitely holds the record for most meaningless commercial there:
Dancing Hamsters and not 1 word is spoken about the vehicle at all. Ironically, one of the costumed hamster dancers was on federal disability while dancing for the commercial, and got caught.
Yeah, I’ve come back to the blog so many times I feel like the zombies in the Return of the Living Dead movies:
Side Note: This is the beginning of RotLD 2. All the zombies here are reanimated because the chemically created zombies from the first movie are incinerated and their ashes float up and contaminated the rainclouds over the cemetery, lol.
That silliness aside, this last absence wasn’t planned at all. We both came down with what we originally thought and was diagnosed by a “professional” as the flu. It turns out we both had severe cases of RSV that kept us down for a month. The last week and a half was a lingering cough along with physical and mental energy so low it was ureal.
The last week plus, we’ve just been trying to play catchup with everything that fell behind while we were ill.
Schedule allowing, I hope to have another post later today or tomorrow. For the moment, I just wanted to get something, anything written.
The trouble with all these forced absences from the blog is that inertia sets in and it’s hard to overcome it. I had a comparative handful of posts last year vs my first few years. One of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to finally reverse course on my writing and truly get into gear.
What that means for WordPress specifically, I’m still not sure. There’s narrowing down topics to start with, and just trying to decide if all the fake followers and social media mentality is worth it all.
Ever since I got the PPC back up and running though, the BIG question is, as the topic says, where to even begin with topics here.
California is burning, AGAIN.
Image via NBC News
The politicians are ALL passing the buck and trying to exploit the situation for personal gain… YET AGAIN. I could spend a month just debunking all the lies and passing of the buck. Governor Newsome and the local administration are blaming everyone but themselves, mostly each other though. One fire department leader was fired after detailing how the mayor mismanaged the department and it’s budget. Of course they’re all pointing finger at that person as a scapegoat now.
Any wonder we left the state? California may be the only place on the planet that makes Washington DC look honest and sane.
Speaking of which… There’s Trump and his cronies trying to blame everyone from homeless and illegal immigrants for starting the fire to Governor Newsome for supposedly blocking sending water South via the state’s canal system.
I personally wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out PG&E was responsible yet again.
Regardless, the Trump water blocking accusation is a bald faced lie. Newsome, like every state politician, never met a drop of NorCal water that he didn’t want to ship to LA to buy votes. That whole “Delta Smelt” lawsuit by environmentalists was an effort to keep LA & the capital from draining the entire Sacramento river delta to provide Beverly Hills with more water for it’s lawns. Meanwhile, farmers are being told they can’t plant crops due to water shortages. The California central valley used to be a huge source of food for the country.
That’s a tangent though. Point is, Trump and his buddies are lying to try to exploit and manipulate their base. This coming from somebody who dislikes Gavin Newsome even more than Trump.
Well, now that the fires are impacting a wealthy SoCal neighborhood, MAYBE something will finally be done to correct the situation.
Then There Was The Orange Man…
Here’s where I REALLY don’t even know where to begin.
I’m not surprised he won the election. His fearmongering regarding the economy was world class. While I hate Hitler comparisons (they’re trite and cliche; a cheap way to try to shut down a debate usually), the combination of fearmongering and scapegoating China, Latinos and the homeless, labor and environmentalists for the the economy and everything else is literally right out of the playbook Hitler used to get elected Chancellor of Germany in 1933. In truth, it’s nothing new, but the extreme it was taken to, along with the disinformation merits the 1933 comparison.
And let’s see… On the foreign policy side, since winning election, Trump has threatened to invade Panama and Mexico, annex Canada and buy Greenland. There’s a repeat of his past rhetoric regarding China also, BUT Trump has vowed to work with China to end the TikTok ban.
I doubt anything will happen with China. Billionaires are addicted to cheap and slave labor, which China provides in abundance. More than likely, Mexico will bear the brunt of the blame for the loss of American jobs just like it did during Trump’s last term. Softer target than a country that manufactures the vast majority of everything sold in the US, and even manufactures military equipment for us. Nevermind how much of our debt they’ve also bought.
On the domestic front, Trump plans to do away with every environmental, labor and business regulation he can. Much of this is promised on day one via executive orders, so what happens later today and tomorrow will tell the tale of how the next 4 years will go.
On the surface, I understand the appeal to the average idiot. Less regulation makes it easier for companies to make money, which means more hiring and a better economy.
HOWEVER…
We live in a society where people can’t even remember scandals and disasters from a few years ago, much less real history.
People forget that most of the regulations put in place by the government were the result of major abuses by corporations. Long hours, little pay and unsafe conditions for workers. And if you got crippled on the job, you were just tossed aside by your employer, society and the government.
People forget the acid rain of the 1970s, or how Lake Erie was so toxic and polluted it caught fire. It wasn’t the only body of water to have that happen. The skies over major cities were orange-brown from the smog. Los Angeles air quality back then:
1970s Los Angeles Smog as Shown In the Film “The Never Ending Race”
That’s no photoshop. I saw it firsthand when I went to Disneyland as a kid.
Deregulating investments and doing away with the Fed… Anybody remember the housing bubble? The student loan crisis? Those are what happens when the government completely takes the brakes off an industry. Those are just more recent examples.
Cassandra Speaks: The Past Will Repeat Itself.
Beyond those more recent examples, there’s the reality that Trump wants to do away with regulations that were put in place after the Great Depression.
What’s that going to lead to if successful? A repeat of that collapse, along with the government bailing out all the mega-corporations that are “too big to fail” while taxpayers foot the bill and starve.
Here’s how it’ll go down. Trump will wipe out regulations, do away with the Federal Reserve, etc. The economy in the short term will shoot up like a rocket. Jobs, money and credit will be plentiful. BUT, it will be the creation of the biggest bubble in history, one that crosses into almost all industries.
The tariffs that Trump is proposing will result in retaliatory tariffs and other countries just deciding not to buy our products. That will assist in the bubble bursting all the sooner, and the economy will come crashing down because all the protections that were designed to prevent it will be gone or weakened to the point of virtual nonexistence.
If it sounds far-fetched, the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 is pretty much identical to the 20% tariffs that Trump wants to slap on Canada, Mexico and others. That resulted in the retaliation I’m predicting to repeat also. The end result was no country could sell goods outside it’s borders. Tell me again how history won’t repeat itself if Trump is able to completely run amok.
Personally, I’ve gotten cynical enough over the years that I believe it’s a deliberate plan. People got rich after the housing bubble, and now it’s very hard for people to break into the housing market. The mega-banks got their bailouts, bought out their competition and now community banking is all but dead. If you look at all the bubbles and bailouts over the past few decades, there’s a history of excessive risk and bad business practices. BIG short term profit, followed by a crash where the government bails the businesses out. Privatizing profit while subsidizing loss.
I think Trump’s billionaire buddies want to take that whole scheme to the next level. When the smoke clears, they’ll be richer, getting government bailouts, and left in control of even more of the economy. If you think I’m wrong about their lust for power, do some research on the rise of Cyberpunk style corporate cities.
As for the Cassandra Speaks part… I’ve got a knack for seeing doom coming clearly, just like Cassandra. There are still quite a few variables in play, including if Congress, the Supreme Court and the public have the spine to stand up to some of Trump’s crazier ideas. Right now, things are not looking good for the long term however.
Treat the next year or two as the feast before the famine. Hope for the best but prepare for the absolute worst. If they time it right, the implosion won’t occur till shortly after the 2028 elections and they’ll blame it on whatever Dems win.
The thing is, people have a bad habit of of doubling down on a belief after they’re shown they’re wrong. This habit was briefly featured on the most recent episode of “The Irrational”. It’s kind of an perverse version of the ‘sunk cost fallacy’ for the ego.
It’s part of why politicians have such an easy time manipulating people, and those same people are so quick to scream ‘fake news’ when confronted with something they don’t like. In an ideal world, people would research the made up water bill that Trump cited and see there’s no such legislation. Just like when Newsome claims fires all start on Federal land, they’d get a map and see that the Feds only control the High Sierra.
SRA is state managed land BTW. Bottom line; the foothills and below are not generally owned or managed by the Federal government.
Long story short though, things are not going to get better until people start paying attention, get news from multiple sources and research things fore themselves instead of regurgitating talking points for the two major parties.
Right now, people can name all the Kardashians but can’t tell you who their congressperson or city council member is, much less how they’ve voted. TV and music is more important to the average schmuck than the people they’ve given power over their lives. That never works out well. A huge part of why the Roman Empire collapsed was that bread and circus were enough to keep the public complacent while the politicians and elites ran amok.
When nobody cares enough to get involved, at least not beyond a ranting tweet, society is destined to fall apart because a society depends upon it’s individual members.
More specifically, (or accurately), my computer has a CPU cooling unit again. That’s why I disappeared for the last almost month. Thanks to attention to detail and monitoring software, I caught that my PC’s CPU cooling fan was going bad weeks ago. No damage done to the computer.
What I didn’t anticipate is what an unmitigated pain in the ass it would be to get a replacement. Amazon is slower that a glacier here in our area, and the holidays only made things worse.
First, I ordered a nearly identical plain fan and CPU cooling fin assembly from Amazon. It turned out that “fits all modern CPUs” doesn’t apply to a computer I bought just 5 years ago (almost to the day). I had to look up my CPU socket type (it’s an Intel 1150 socket), then fell for the same misinformation ploy with a Corsair brand cooler.
Yeah, two returns in a row… *headdesk*
Don’t get me started on how I feel about Corsair brand computer products anymore either. My keyboard may be world class, but their mice are complete garbage with bad scroll wheels. Failing to even be able to properly list what systems a cooler will or won’t work with was the last straw for me. I won’t be using their products anymore. Shame. At one point, they were the gold standard.
At any rate, after alot of swearing, and equal amounts of research to find something I knew was compatible and reliable, I ended up going with water.
Water cooling has been out for at least a decade. When I first heard about it back in the early days though, there were issues with leaks (water & electricity mix, right? lol) or the water just evaporating in the cooler. They’ve come a long way the last decade.
So, I bolted the radiator and fan assembly to the roof vent area and installed the cooler block on the CPU. After a little fighting with the wiring, I was up and running.
I’ve spent the last few days testing it out. My CPU stays at about 30 to 32 degrees Celsius during normal operations and only gets up to 65 degrees during prolonged gaming sessions. That’s 86 to 90 degrees F for normal operations and about 149 F for gaming.
I know… Wrong meme for the current weather. 🤣 Our town is scheduled to get more snow tomorrow (later today) than we’ve seen in the total of the last 5 years.
None the less, 85 C or 185 F is considered the borderline of the the safe zone, so I’m loving the new cooler. It’ll help the CPU last longer and improve performance.
For those who are curious about how their own system is doing, there are multiple free programs you can download to watch your CPU (and other subsystems). For my CPU, I’m using Core Temp. It’s lightweight, unobtrusive, and seems to be spyware free as best I can tell
Yes, it’s cold AF out there. We’re supposed to get 5 to 8 inches of snow later today. This in a town that averages 1 to 2 inches for the entire year, and we’ve only seen snow once in the 4 1/2 years we’ve been here.
Snow in the Deep South is always a fun experience too. EVERYTHING turns to black ice, and so fast that it gets covered with snow. Makes for some REAL fun driving, lol.
Yeah, guess who’s staying inside the next few days until when and if this stuff melts. The temperatures are staying really low, so it’s probably going to stick around a while.
Just a short post today, and ZERO politics. I’ve had a TON on my mind the last few days, hence replies to blogs being rather short. I got hit with a culinary mystery yesterday also.
The Case of the Vanishing Chili Flavor:
Couldn’t resist a little flashback fun to open this up.
OK, so before going to bed night before last, I got some chili going in the Crock Pot. Since there is NO edible store bought hot dog chili in Tennessee, we’ve taken to making our own and freezing it in single meal sized storage containers. Nothing fancy, just ground beef, pre-packaged chili seasoning and some tomato paste & water.
I almost always have great luck going this path. Yesterday’s batch should have turned out exceptional, since slow cooking it in the Crock Pot should have really brought out the flavors. This was the most bland chili I’ve ever had in my life though.
Not only that, but every effort I made to doctor it up met with very minimal results. I must have added a quarter cup of garlic powder, along with some paprika, cumin, salt, pepper, chili powder, some hatch chili green enchilada sauce, actual hatch chilis… It’s barely made a difference. Even if the original Shelby’s Chili Mix package had been stale / bland, the added seasonings should have brought the chili to life. All those spices were fresh.
Neither of us could taste much of anything though, and we can taste everything else just fine. Well, all I can say is next time it’s back to Sucklebuster’s chili mix. They never let me down.
Decisions, Decisions…
I don’t know why I’m sweating this situation just yet. The decision is just as likely to be made for me, but…
As some of you will recall, I’ve been sitting out of work for months as my wrists heal from work related injuries. Tennessee’s workman’s comp and other protections are anywhere from nonexistent to a borderline joke. The rest of you here will see when Trump starts stripping away those protections nationally in the name of the economy.
ANYWAY… I got an interview and a preliminary job offer with a company that acts as a consulting firm for the auto plant that worked over my wrists. They help tweak parts designs and act as efficiency advisors for various parts of the assembly line.
The catch is that the job offer has to be cleared with the actual auto manufacturer before an actual offer can be made. So yeah, who knows if it’ll play out.
In a delicious twist of fate though *IF* I get the job, I’d be making 20% more than I did as an actual plant employee, AND I’d essentially be telling the people I worked with how to do their jobs. 🤣🩷🤣
Image generated by Bing AI: Stealing Artists’ Work All Over the Internet.
There are already a couple of potential red flags to me though (aside from needing company approval to return). During the initial screening interview, I wasn’t given an opportunity to ask any questions at all. Even at my first job working fast food decades ago, the manager asked if I had any questions before closing out the interview.
Second was that after I was texted about the potential compensation package, I tried throwing out a great interview question I found online. I asked if there were any books I could read that would give me a better handle on the company’s culture and help me fit in better. I got texted back that they’d handle all that during onboarding. 🤨
Things that make you go hmmmm…. – Arsenio Hall
So yeah, I’m a little gunshy now and wondering what sort of corporate climate I may be walking into. As much as I’d love to get back to work, I would like to avoid a toxic minefield. I’ll be treading carefully here, assuming I even get the opportunity.
