Have you ever wondered if there was a meaning to the popular song “the twelve days of Christmas”? There is, and I only just discovered it:
From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this carol as a catechism song for young Catholics.
It has two levels of meaning: the surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church. Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality which the children could remember.
-The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.
-Two turtle doves were the Old and New Testaments.
-Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.
-The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke & John.
-The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the Old Testament.
-The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.
-Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy Spirit–Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and Mercy.
-The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.
-Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit–Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.
-The ten lords a-leaping were the ten commandments.
-The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.
-The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in the Apostles’ Creed.
There is more information about the 12 days of Christmas tradition here.

When I was about eight years old I got the best Christmas present ever.
I got a bike.
It was lime green and had little white daisies stenciled on the frame.
It also happened that on that Christmas morning it snowed and I had Chicken Pox.
I also had a minor concussion, I got that when I took my bike out and rode it around on the ice and in the snow with my best friend.
He also got a bike AND the Chicken Pox.
Nothing was going to stop me from enjoying that bike.
Not a sick friend, the elements or the fact that the brakes on my bike weren’t adjusted yet.
It didn’t matter then and it doesn’t matter now
To this day it remains my favorite Christmas gift.
ever
and
one of my favorite Christmas Memories.

I turned the ’12 Princesses’ into a Christmas gift by creating a handmade book for my sister and her boys. here are three pictures of parts of the cover (it’s long and narrow). Each page has little pictures from the internet plus hand drawn pictures by me in colored pencil.
The front is actually a skirt that I took apart and used for various art projects. It also has an attached book mark with beads.

Auntie Olga here – I asked for ATCs from my very talented niece & nephew for my Christmas 2008 presents this year – and they are so wonderful I must share them with all of you! They are one of the highlights of my Christmas this year!
Here they are – from left to right, and top to bottom:

Sibyl has decided to have a serious, weekend theatre session and is providing mood generators for all those who are going on E’s TransLemurian Cruise on the SS Vulcania. She is being especially helpful because she is planning to lock up the house and board on the 12th Night as well. Someone as stylish as our Sibyl could not be left out of any fun and besides, Ebony Wilder has packed her bag and is planning to abandon the kitchen.
Perhaps you might help out by bringing along a plate of food and some DVD’s to share to help get us all into the mood. Personally I might pop down and borrow a copy of the African Queen. Not quite a cruise ship I know, but what the hell.
Add all suggestions here.

There is great excitement here at Riversleigh. Enchanteur has sent word through that on the 12th Night, in January 2009 the Vulcania will set sail.
The SS Vulcania is a cruise ship that has been commissioned and is captained by Le Enchanteur. It is a luxury liner, in the style of the Conte di Savoia and Queen Mary. The Vulcania is inspired by the luxurious, Italian transatlantic liners of the past, liners which voyaged between Italy and the Americas. On board the memories and refinement of a beautiful age have been recreated with modern elegance, and, at the same time, paying an amazing homage to the past. On the Vulcania, there is space for everyone and for all kinds of entertainment. This is one of the greatest pleasures on a ship this size, each guest can carve their ideal cruise for themselves, inside a spellbinding and romantic world. Facilities include 3 swimming pools, show lounge, theatres, jogging track and a variety of restaurants offering a culinary extravaganza.
Translemurian cruises are unlike any other you have ever been on. Beginning your journey in a busy port beyond the Murmuring Woods, you feel the bustle of humanity as you board your tremendous ship. The feeling of excitement will intensify as you reach your cabin and prepare to return to deck to lift anchor.
Sailing day on the Vulcania could prove bit hectic and exciting. Anticipation will be in the air as passengers board, along with celebrities and their entourages, reporters and photographers, baggage handlers, steamer trunks, porters, company officials and the ship’s crew returning from their shore leave.
A well-appointed ship is essential to any Translememurian cruise voyage. With a little preparation and planning, you can make the most out of your Translemurian adventure. On the Vulcania, there is space for everyone and for all kinds of entertainment. One of the greatest pleasures on a ship this size, each guest can carve their ideal cruise for themselves, inside a spellbinding and romantic world. Facilities include 3 swimming pools, show lounge, theatres, casino, a huge shopping mall, jogging track and a variety of restaurants offering a culinary extravaganza.
With all those hours at sea, you will have all the time to do whatever it is that you please. If you’re a dreamer you can find a nice quiet spot on the ship’s expansive decks and gaze out into the blue water and think about other lost continents – of what you will do when you disembark and enter new and different Lemurian ports. If you like using your free time to get in shape and treat your body, you can go for an invigorating swim before breakfast then spend the afternoon walking or jogging on the deck.
And then there are those fascinating characters, with their egos and alter egos coming for the ride. Oh the charm of it all.
Before departing from the dock in the Lemurian Cove, beyond the Murmuring Woods, passengers will need to be checked in and allocated cabins. Prior to departure passengers will be required to leave special Volcanalia, sacrifices to Vulcan, after whom this ship is dedicated. These sacrifices will be left here, in the comment section, to ensure that the proud Vulcania has a safe journey and does not have the fate of a ship like the Titanic. We do not want anything quite that dramatic happening within Lemurian Waters.

Riversleigh is an old style manor house that offers rooms with a view to artists and writers who are interested in settling in Lemuria and working to populate this old realm. The Riversleigh Set is a group of artists and writers who live, beyond the portal of Soul Food, within the world of Lemuria. Sibyl Riversleigh has opened the house for the Christmas holiday season. To join the festivities you need a WordPress account. Then all you need to do is contact heatherblakey at fastmail dot fm and ask to be included.
Sibyl has a kind of news sheet that helps residents keep up to date with what is happening at Riversleigh Manor. Keep an eye out for updates because there really is a lot happening and you would not want to be a silly and miss out on an adventure, now would you?| imogen88 on I Think…. | |
