I am struck by the similarity to 19th Century writers from Concord, Mass. What were the common denominators in these two, dissimilar communities that produced multiple writers of such striking ability? How can similar communities use the answer to this question to enhance the education of their children?

It is obvious that the authors learned to love reading at an early age and, of course, the influence of genetics and family enviroment played a part in their growth, but there must have been more…
