Welcome to Saturday Scribes, an open writing community started in 2008, that was sparked by the Saturday Reading Nights crowd (Peterborough/Port Perry/Omemee, ON). Every Friday, we post a theme or prompt to help get the creative juices flowing. The idea is to write something – anything creative, be it a poem, story, novel excerpt, musing, blog entry, you name it – based on the theme or prompt. We’re not looking for polished, edited work – this is a chance to let your imagination run free. Gag and bind that inner editor if you have to. New 2009: Photos, collages, and other forms of visual (or even audio) artwork are also welcome.
On Saturday, comments will be opened so people can post a link to whatever they’ve written (or drawn/snapped/painted). Please make sure to include the permalink to your post, rather than a link to the main page of your blog. To find the permalink, click on the title of your post, then copy and paste the url from your browser window. It will look something like this: https://saturdayscribes.wordpress.com/2008/06/18/and-so-it-begins or like this: https://www.celticharper.com/blog/?page_id=2
There are only a few simple rules:
- Write something. Whatever moves you at the time. If it doesn’t fit with the theme, that’s fine; tell us why you chose to do something else instead -or don’t. The main thing is to write.
- No plagiarizing. This should be an obvious one. If you want to link to another writer’s work, please be clear that you’re doing so and properly acknowledge any other writer’s contribution.
- Keep it civil. If you’re linking to something with adult language or themes, please make a note of it when you post your link. Rants are fine, but we don’t want to see anything hateful or hurtful. This is meant to be a supportive community.
- No slamming or belittling other writers. Keep any criticism constructive. If a writer wants help with more serious critiqueing, they’ll usually say so in their post. Remember, we’re trying to encourage each other in our writerly endeavours, after all!
That’s about it. Welcome aboard, and have fun!
