I keep trying to start things

But my ambition seems to have done a runner.

My left hand isn’t finished healing, even though it’s been a month.  It was a very deep cut.  It would feel better if I would stop forgetting, and picking things up with it, or leaning on it. Of course I am left hand dominant, so that’s he biggest reason I keep forgetting.

We are making travel plans for later this year.  I hope I’m up for it. My physio and exercise therapist are doing they damnedest to make sure I ready and able.

Also did something I hadn’t done in years. I uploaded something to my photo/art sales site.

Ever since Dr H changed one of my medications, the weight is finally coming off. The new meds don’t make you lose weight, but unlike the old ones, they don’t PREVENT weight loss. Ahhh, the chemical experiment that is my life.

Oh jeeze

I have a week off from my exercise therapy due to me attempting to carve a chunk out of my hand on Christmas day. Saw her yesterday, and she made up for lost time, and I wish my legs belonged to someone else. To say they hurt would be an understatement. Hot shower, and some ibuprofen to the rescue.

Wing has been spending his last few days of vaycay taking care of the yard. It’s so tidy I could host a party… that’s if I could hold anything.

Also saw physiotherapist, and I seem to be improving his vocabulary. He asked how I was feeling, and I said “an overwhelming feeling of ennui.” He had to look up the word ennui.

Try to do the right thing

Wing came home with a nasty cold a week ago this past Friday. Over the past week, Alan and I have managed to avoid catching it. Unfortunately, Alan has caught it, and now he’s keeping distance, staying in his room, wearing mask, using hand cleaner.

I am also wearing mask again, using hand sanitizer, etc etc.

With how nasty this cold virus is (yes, cold. Tested negative for Covid, RSV or Flu), I called the cleaning service this morning before 11, because Alan woke up coughing, and just sick. BUT, because I didn’t call 24 hours ahead of time, only 22, they were going to charge anyhow if I cancelled. Fine, she can come here, we will be wearing masks, have hand sanitizer around.

We don’t have the time or equipment to sanitize a house. I hope cleaner doesn’t catch it, or blame us if she does.

I probably pissed off his mother, but I don’t care

I really don’t. There is a time and a place for everything. That being typed, if your 10yr old son is bouncing a basketball up and down the aisles in a grocery store, not under control of the ball at all, coming close to tripping people, and you say nothing, I will.

Hubby and I were shopping at Coles. This boy had his basket ball in the cart his mother was pushing, but decided to take it out, and started running up and down the aisles, bouncing it (can’t say dribbling, as he had no control and kept chasing it)

This boy ran into me (I’m still using a cane to get around), after almost tripping other two people, I told him “This isn’t the time, nor the place.”

He replied “What did you say?”

“This isn’t the time, nor the place for that. (pointing to his ball). He picked it up and ran to his mother to complain. A woman that worked at Coles thanked me.  I told her I was probably going to get my ass chewed out by his mother, but it would be worth it.

Oddly enough, nothing.

I keep up the mantra

Because it’s good for me, because it’s good for me.

Tough session at exercise therapy today. Treadmill pushed to not quite running, but walking at one helluva clip.
Because it’s good for me.

Then, it’s was off to the weights.  I really don’t like lapping the gym while holding onto two 4kg weights. I busted my ass losing a lot of weight, so lugging 8kgs of weight at the end of my arms isn’t a whole helluva lot of fun.
Because it’s good for me.

Then push-up, followed by lifting weights straight up over my head.
Because it’s good for me.

Gawd, I wish I had a spa tub.

The Great Camera Clean Up!

Eh, not great.  Been wiping down and dusting 4 cameras. Two pocket sized point and shoots, and one slightly larger one, and a micro 4/3s, and one mirrorless full frame.

One of the little ones is an Olympus SH-1. Easy to clean, but a pain to charge the battery. Have to have it plugged into a USB port. Very slow to charge.

The other small one is a Canon S95. Comes with a battery charger, and charged them up very quickly.

The slightly larger one is an Olympus Stylus 1. Cleaned up ok, but the zooming knob would stick. A very careful application of liquid silicone on it, and it works as if brand new.

Next one, Olympus E-M1mII.  Just needed dusting and a battery swap out.

Last but definitely not least, Canon R5. Didn’t need much, but I did give it a good going over with dust brush, and microfiber cloth, and checked battery status. All good.

It’s never simple with software, is it?

I have switched from Chrome browser to Brave. I ditched Chrome because of their habit of disabling addons that were no long on their webstore, or didn’t have adware it.  Brave installed, and install all those addons, even the ones they no longer have because the violate their policies (aka no adware, no paid for content etc).

Then came the fun part; having to figure out which one was screwing up page layouts.  Turns out it was Google’s ‘new’ addon replacement for the one they took down.  Disabled the new and improved, installed the ‘old and lousy’ , and everything’s working perfectly.

And internet history repeats..

Yeah, they said they sent out emails, and posted it on their own blog, but I got it, and I looked through all my email accounts, including spam folders.

With no warning, TypePad closed up. I found out by trying to post to it, as usual, and got some error message. I clicked on link to my blog page, and got this huge CLOSED graphic, with lame-assed excuses as to why we could no longer even archive the weblogs.  If this sounds familiar, it’s because this was exactly what 6Apart did to Vox blog back in 2010.

So yeah, I am pissed off.

Love me some nostalgia

Starting back in the 1990s, there was a comic strip, titled “User Friendly”. I would visit it every day, and submit “Links of the Day”.  A couple of times, that site would get overloaded. Good times.

A while back, I decided to check it, to see if there was anything new. True, I hadn’t visited the site for a long time, but I was surprised to find out it was gone. Defunct.

But all was not lost. Someone, before UF vanished, archived every comic strip.

Never underestimate the joy of nostalgia. (clicks to another strip)

The weekly grind

And if only it meant what coffee we chose, instead of this shit-show that is currently my life. Wing has decided to push up our photo jaunt from next year, to next month. So, instead of having 6 months to get myself physically ready, got about six weeks

Two exercise therapy sessions a week, one physio session every two weeks. I keep working with the weights, including walking with them, at home. What this means is I’m in an almost constant state of ouch. Hence the use of the term ‘shit-show’. I’m hoping that all this effort will pay off in the short and long run.
