RVNA Board Meeting 2016

Holt 2338-2c

We held a Board meeting on Saturday June 11, 2016, hosted by Anabel, board member and Holt Street Block Captain. Mexican food from Campos on Robertson was served.  We were joined by Michael Rozales, Reynier Ave Block Captain, Frank Shelton, who was elected to the SORONC Board as Organization Representative for RVNA, Linda Theung, who ran for a At Large seat, and out of a crowded field of 15 candidates, she was not elected.  We invited her to run for the RVNA Board at our January 2017 elections, after she moves into her new home on Gibson.
We discussed the possibility that Verizon might sue the City of LA for denying them a permit to build a cell tower at 2512 Robertson, the illegal dumping problem in the alley between Cattaraugus and Bedford, the alley at the end of Garth and the Garth underpass, our support of SORONC efforts to convince LA Park and Recs to enforce regulations at Reynier Park, require permits to reserve space for large picnics.  We confirmed our commitment to host 4 summer park nights for RVNA members in July and August.

RVNA News 2016

January 30, 2016

We held our annual membership meeting on January 9, 2016 at new local restaurant Asian Fusion on Robertson. More than 150 RVNA members were invited to join the RVNA Board and Block Captains to discuss the direction of RVNA for 2016 and celebrate RVNA accomplishments for 2015.

In 2014 RVNA contacted Herb Wesson’s office and the SORO Neighborhood Council for their help in petitioning LAPD and LA City Departments to install NO Overnight Parking for Oversize Vehicles in the Cattaraugus and Garth underpasses.  This was accomplished and campers are no longer parked there.  RVNA regularly monitors the illegal dumping of large items in our streets, reports it to LA Sanitation and to SORO NC LandUse Committee.  We also report homeless encampments to our Councilmen’s offices.

Please check the HFPA history page of our website for more information.

The RVNA 2016 Newsletter was printed by SLB Printing on Robertson, and distributed to our 20 Block Captains to deliver to every home in Reynier Village.  Read it below.
This is our way of reaching those residents who are not on our mailing list.

RVNA News 2014

January 24, 2014

As decided at the 2013 RVNA members meeting, we created the 2014 RVNA Newsletter, describing some of the accomplishments of our Reynier Village Neighbhorhood Association, inviting residents to join our FREE Mailing list and to sign up for membership.
The typesetting design was done by SLB Printing, that recently  opened at 2822 Robertson, because one of the goals of RVNA is to patronize the businesses in our neigbhorhood. Check our Robertson webpage.
The bright red flyer below was distributed to our 20 volunteer Block Captains, who will deliver it to every home in Reynier Village.
RVNA believes it is important for everyone to be connected to prevent crime and help each other in emergencies.

Sunday December 15, 2013

RVNA called a lunch meeting at Campos on Robertson for dues-paying members to exchange ideas with board and block captains about the plans of the Reynier Village Neighborhood Association for 2014.
It was decided that a flyer will be created and distributed in January to all 500 plus households within our boundaries, explaining what we have been doing for our neighbors since 2007, soliciting sign-ups and renewals by February 15, 2014, when the current membership year expires.
We will make more clear that residents may elect NOT to have APS Patrol Service, and only pay $20 dues, instead of $70. However we may lose APS completely in 2015, since a minimum of 100 members is required.
We will invite all residents to get on our FREE mailing list to receive news and alerts, so we may be connected in case of emergency and to prevent crime.
RVNA has partnered with Dr. Andrew Leavenworth, who plans to go door to door offering sign-ups for FREE CERT (Community Emergency Response Teams) classes.
RVNA is committed to organize 4 park night events in 2014, a tradition since 2005.

SORO Meeting 2012

Thursday May 17, 2012

On May 11 RVNA notified neighbors of a meeting of the SORO NC Board to hear community input about a proposed 24-hour 7-Eleven store in the empty lot at the corner of Robertson and Cattaraugus. On May 14 RVNA forwarded the link to an online petition opposing a second 7-Eleven location just a few blocks South of the 7-Eleven at the corner of Airdrome and Robertson. In the space of a few days over 600 residents logged their objections and their reasons (more crime, more traffic, etc.).  On May 17 over 100 neighbors attended the meeting and 30 spoke against the proposal.  Consequently the SORO Board passed a motion strongly opposing “a commercial corner exception to allow a proposed 7-Eleven at 2036 Robertson to operate 24 hours a day.”
