I’m a former journalist, former public relations practitioner and current mass communication professor… but this blog is only loosely connected to any of those things. I created Rural Rambles for several reasons:
- For the same reason I’ve created a Facebook page, a del.ici.ous site, podcasts and wikis — to learn about the technology. The main reason I created this blog was because I needed to experience the phenomenon of blogging. I teach about blogs, I read blogs, but I had never taken the time to create one. I guess it’s time.
- I created this blog as a way to tell stories about people, places and events connected with the rural areas surrounding my home in the Lakelands of South Carolina: Greenwood, Abbeville and McCormick counties and nearby. That’s one of the things that I miss from my days as a newspaper journalist. Blogs allow anyone to share in the storytelling.

- I also hope to use this blog as a way to create and capture adventures with my family. There’s more to life than video games, fast food kids’ meals and toy departments of megasuperstores. I’m ready to get out there and explore…
