ABOUT

“Building community one drink at a time!”

Mission: The mission of the Riverwest Public House Cooperative is three-fold: to provide a welcoming social meeting place, to provide patrons with a variety of affordable local, organic and/or delicious beers, ciders and spirits, and to raise funds to propagate other cooperatives through the Riverwest Cooperative Alliance.

In addition to making available community meeting space, we host a wide range of events such as live music every weekend, LGBTuesdays, Trivia Night, Night School, Educators’ Happy Hour, and Theology on Tap. Please contact events@riverwestpublichouse.org to book an event or meeting.

Inspiration: The Riverwest Public House Cooperative is being modeled in part after England’s public houses. These pubs, which date back to the middle of the 15th century, often serve as a focal point for the locals to meet and gossip and arrange mutual help within their communities. A complete history of public houses, including fascinating information on “lock-ins” and “snugs” can be found here: Wikipedia Public Houses You can also download a free copy of the book The Myth of Mondragon: Cooperatives, Politics, and Working-Class Life in a Basque town here: Radical E-Books

Inspiration for the Riverwest Public House Cooperative was also derived from Mondragón Cooperative Corporation, the instigator of hundreds of other cooperatives worldwide. More info on Mondragón and the Public House’s association can be found on the Riverwest Cooperative Alliance section of this website.
