Thanks! I agree with you. You are not remembered for what you possess but for how you made people feel.

Just read something similar today and it talked about how in life, what really matters is humility, empathy, love and how we treat people. In the end, no one remembers cars, houses or money, all they remember how good you were to them.

U made me think…some like Miracle I had not seen. But since this one is about lists … sharing mine … treating it as the Western sensibility rather than strictly Hollywood.
1. Life is Beautiful … well, not Hollywood, strictly speaking, but as a celebration of human spirit, & one of the best examples of magical realism, Roberto Benigni is hard to ignore.
2. Heaven and Earth … the 3rd of Oliver Stone Vietnam trilogy, less celebrated than Platoon & Born On the 4th of July. But I just thought there was a completeness to this one, a closing of the circle.
3. Shawshank Redemption
4. Gandhi … when it comes to a biopic I will pick Attenborough’s creation, even if it glorified the father of our nation to an extent that does not do justice to some other historical figures. Well made, & Ben Kingsley was fantastic.
5. The Godfather
6. The Last Emperor : grand, opulent, sweeping, and yet Bertolucci never loses his grip on the storyline via recurring flashbacks.
7. Dr. Zhivago … it was toss up with Fiddler On The Roof for a Russian theme. But Omar Sharif’s delightful depiction of a man in love in the midst of chaos of the times was just too powerful. David Lean’s Russian creation gets the nod over his other candidates, Lawrence of Arabia & Passage to India, both great movies.
8. Back To The Future : Robert Downey Jr was delightful and Robert Zemeckis’s direction was delightful. There has to be one Hollywood movie with time travel, romance & comedy, thats watchable again and again, else the list wouldnt be authentic.
9. Forrest Grump … anyone who has seen Lal Singh Chaddha will understand why it cant be recreated … by anyone.
10. American Beauty … Kevin Spacey may be a monster in real life, but this was a tour de force. A truly great modern day classic, of hope rising even as the reality decays and crumbles. And the Rashmon style of the climax, and the Sunset Boulevard style denoument of the last day of the protagonist’s life adds to the many cinematic techniques used in this movie. ]]>

V nice. Good reflective observations. So Arjun was a protagonist but not the hero.

Good observations. As a father and growing up with many of the same character building tasks, I could totally relate !! I wish more kids would do the same now…get out and do stuffs instead of staying in their room on phone or computers all day/night long…
