Editorial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and implement an editorial calendar with rolling publication.
- Ensure all content aligns with Ridge View Echo’s mission and is timely and relevant.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director on planning, strategy, and growth.
- Expand coverage into neighboring towns and ensure local beats are well-covered.
Content & Publishing Management
- Solicit, assign, edit, and approve stories that adhere to our editorial standards.
- Fact-check all content and guide writers toward clear, compelling storytelling.
- Implement SEO best practices in headlines and content.
- Optimize and upload stories and images to WordPress, ensuring accessibility (ADA-compliant ALT tags).
- Encourage diverse voices in coverage.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, onboard, and mentor new writers and contributors.
- Provide regular feedback to writers and help them develop their skills.
- Manage monthly editorial budget and track contracts and compensation.
Operational & Administrative Tasks
- Approve invoices from writers and ensure timely payment.
- Use personal equipment for remote work (except for compensated content/images).
- Uphold professional standards, confidentiality, and conflict-of-interest policies.
Community Engagement & Partnerships
- Collaborate with local organizations to expand editorial reach.
- Represent Ridge View Echo at public forums, events, and initiatives to increase community involvement.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or a related field (preferred)
- 2+ years of editorial experience, preferably in local or nonprofit journalism (preferred)
- Excellent writing, editing, and editorial judgment
- Knowledge of AP Style (modified for our outlet)
- Familiarity with SEO best practices and digital publishing
- Experience with WordPress and editorial workflows
- Commitment to ethical, community-centered reporting
- Ability to work independently and lead a remote, distributed team
