Having served in the military, my perspective on Darfur, Uganda and other places as compared to my/your life here in the U.S. is that we in this country give people, the oppressed in places such as Darfur, hope. We the U.S. of A. are the model for those in other countries who wish to one day experience freedom. In fact, after visiting poor provinces in Korea and the Phillipines, I came back to the U.S. definitely more thankful of what this land allows me… freedom.

But what definitely came into focus after my return is how desperately some people in this country would love for the U.S. to return to the behavior of oppression that essentially this country was built on. This desire mimics the current regimes and policies that exist in places such as Darfur, Uganda and the Congo that causes such oppression. Don’t act like the U.S. has always had the model of equality at the current level during its history… it hasn’t.

You are essentially telling me to shut up and be glad I’m here and not in Darfur. I say to you step off. I pay my taxes like anyone else and I have a right to participate and ensure that the US embrace its role to those in the world who look to us for hope. When they see the U.S. back sliding on civil rights and prosperity, where do they have to turn too….China? India? Russia? France? Britian? Mexico?

The fact is that these countries themselves look to the US as a model for democracy. I will continue to express my viewpoint on backsliding mindsets such as Sarah Palin placing congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords district in the cross hairs of a scope insinuating violence via gun is needed to silence this Democrat representative. I’m sure Jared Lee Loughner was a fan of Palin, Beck, Fox News and the Tea Party as well as the Libertarian Party. All advocate gun violence through use of innuendo and scare tactics as a course of change in this country.
