  1. Here is something which may be of interest to you – Neil Young busking outside Glasgow Central station in 1976. Two socialist newspaper sellers can be seen on film – one “Socialist Worker” and one “Red Weekly”.

    1. The Socialist Worker seller is Brian Lavery, now a celebrated naval historian: the Red Weekly seller is Alan Freeman, then the Ross tendency’s man in Glasgow, now attached to Socialist Action and Historical Materialism.

      1. I turned up 10 mins late and missed the Neil Young performance outside central station. I remember Alan Freeman excitedly telling me I had just missed Neil Young busking. I was gutted as I was a big Neil Young fan. I think it was a Thursday at approximately 5pm. The IMG used to do a paper sale every Thursday, Friday and Saturday outside Central station. We would pick up the papers ( Red Weekly) at the red star office in Hope street on a Thursday around 4pm. In Glasgow we had a regular weekly sale of about 150 papers. Also did the pubs in the west end on a Friday night

  2. I will try to come up with those badges that ‘legatte’ mentioned as I got them from supporters of the International Majority in ’73 Chicago (I believe). It was a special USSWP convention on international issues and a full Young Socialist’s one after.

  3. I have the following IMG badges:
Black FI sign on red background
No means no (Reclaim the Night)
Women in Action agaisnt the cuts (we briefly had a publication called Women in Action) Benn for Deputy
Also such ephemera as a cosultative delegate badge for the Socialist Challenge conference of 1981 and a Conference organising Committee for the same one
A steward’s badge from the 1979 joint NAC-TUC demo (I used to have the armband too, don’t know where it went).
Others I don’t remember whethey they’re our or campaigns :
    Troops Out Now (Ireland)
    Free Abortion on the NHS
    A Woman’s Right to Work

  4. There were two Benn badges. The less polite one said: BENN FOR DEPUTY, BUT SHOOT THE SHERRIF FIRST. That would be a real collectors item.
