The Case For Abolishing The City Of London Police

The Guildhall establishment expects that a government white paper, which is likely to be published on Monday 26/1/26, will propose abolishing the City of London Police by absorbing it into the Metropolitan Police. This piece explains why that’s a good idea, and casts light on the masonic nature of the Guildhall establishment by exposing how it is calling on elected members to act in unity to oppose this proposal. In the City council and masonic lodges, views that dissent from those of the hierarchy aren’t tolerated. Ostracisation, smears and – in the council – even referral to its pet police force on spurious grounds are the consequences of dissent.

Welcome to the square mile civic nightmare!

City Of London Council Faces Government Funding Cut & Potential Existential Threat

2026 has started badly for Chris Hayward and the rest of the political establishment of the City of London council with the announcement that the government has proposed drastically cutting funding for the council’s local authority functions. This has caused a lot of anxiety among elected members, stemming from the possibility that the government has finally realised that an independently wealthy local authority which buys bottles of fine claret with a retail price of £62 for its senior elected members and officers to enjoy while mistreating the residents of its housing estates doesn’t deserve so much taxpayer funding, or any at all. This funding cut could constitute an existential threat to the council, as the continual rationalisation of its functions would lead naturally to its eventual abolition.

City Of London Council Fails To Take A Public Position On Extraordinary Claims About Its “Youth Organisation” The Guild Of Young Freemen

For many reasons, including reputational damage, it is remiss of the City council to be so slow in publicly addressing the existence of a document entitled Toxic Culture Inside The City’s Youth Guild: Misogyny, Discrimination & Bullying Under The Corporation’s Nose – and if its contents are genuine, acting on it. The fact that George Godfrey is still the Guild’s Clerk after being exposed as a liar nearly a year ago in a different scandal has already tainted the council’s establishment. Its apparent foot dragging on the current controversy about the behaviour of other officers of the Guild is beginning to look like part of a pattern.

Ex-Lord Mayor Alastair King Posing For Pictures With A Convicted Criminal & The City Of London Council Lobbying For Honours

The visibly intense lobbying for UK honours means that these awards have little credibility with either the right-wing or the liberal press,* or with anyone who knows a little about them. The City of London council is one of the entities that puts a huge amount of effort into getting its elected members honours. Alongside the many other councillor perks (scroll down here) in the last rotten borough, having officers lobbying for honours is yet another unsavoury practice that attracts the wrong type of candidate to stand for office within this local authority.

Reform, The City Of London Council & The Guild Of Young Freemen

St Michael’s Cornhill, which is closely connected to the City of London council and its livery companies, was where Reform launched its Christian Fellowship group earlier this month. Cornhill senior councillor Robert Howard is a church warden at St Michael’s. It is one of a number of Church of England churches in the City of London to be lavishly and unnecessarily funded with the council’s Community Infrastructure Levy money. St Michael’s has close links to the City’s Livery Companies whose member make up the council’s third chamber Common Hall. It is also the Guild Church of the Guild of Young Freeman.

City Of London Council Leader Chris Hayward Plays A Confidence Trick About Funding Its Housing Renovation, Which Is Exposed By Alder Martha Grekos

The City of London council has had to admit that the continuing dilapidation of its social housing estates is an “ongoing scandal”, but the council’s political establishment has refused to apply a single pound of its £2 billion City’s Estate fund towards renovation. As predicted by this blog, the establishment has now compounded that scandal by playing a confidence trick: its leader, Chris Hayward, presented a report to the full council for approval that gives the impression that the problem of funding estate renovation has been solved when – according to the council’s own figures – it hasn’t. It’s clear that the establishment will continue to rely on PR to put a lid on resident discontent while spending huge sums on projects far less important than providing decent homes. This confidence trick was, as usual, exposed by Alder Martha Grekos, one of very few elected members not cowed by the establishment’s bullying, although Hayward tried to undermine her exposure with a lie. The new Lady Mayor, Sue Langley, has again shown herself to be a fake feminist by looking on and doing nothing. Another more local scandal is that the alder and all 8 councillors of the ward of Cripplegate in which the council’s largest social housing estate, Golden Lane, is located collaborated with Hayward’s establishment in approving the report.

Mixed Press Coverage For The City Of London Council On Transparency & Smithfield & Billingsgate Markets

The City of London council, with its culture of non-transparency, is too focused on its own interest to recognise the public interest. The number of reports and information placed into the non-public section of the City’s agenda has been a long and ongoing issue, which members have constantly and consistently raised. Far too many items are discussed behind closed doors instead of in the public domain, especially housing reports. It’s very understandable why tenants and leaseholders have concerns; democracy and trust are based on transparency and openness.
