And he confidently shoots back - When you take drugs it grows receptors and you keep needing more. That is addiction. I said it was actually Habituation and he agreed. But it is addiction was his final say. My other doctor, who believes as I do - that most addiction is caused by pain - couldn't answer that question. <br>

Who is correct? Likely both. What is the prescription? Cut back on the amount of drugs for Full Receptor Addiction. Just enough to keep the pain at bay. Increase the dosage for those with Empty Receptor Addiction. Just enough to keep the pain at bay. END THE WAR. Put "addicts" under a doctor's supervision with pharmacy medication. <br>

What are the proportions? We don't know. But we do have a data point. Dr. Lonny Shavelson in his book "Hooked" said that 70% of female heroin addicts had been sexually abused in childhood. Which says pain causes most drug addiction and is probably the start of all of them. We fight the drug war like all addiction is Habituation. People in pain are taking NO NOTICE. They want pain relief NO MATTER WHAT. As you would expect.<br>

That has now been erased to make Heroin addictive. There are no "addictive drugs" is essentially what my doctor admitted. End of the war. Of course I had figured it out on my own by studying the science before I asked him. It was pretty obvious. Drugs fill receptors. Empty receptors send pain signals. Other than Habituation, there is nothing else significant in the time frame. Habituation is caused by full receptors. Addiction is caused by empty receptors.There are no addictive drugs. People take pain relievers for empty receptors (pain).<br>

Christensen was noted for building software tools for his needs. He wrote a cassette-based operating system before floppy disks and hard disks were common.[citation needed] When he lost track of the source code for some programs, he wrote ReSource, an iterative disassembler for the Intel 8080, to help him regenerate the source code.[14][15] In 1977, he wrote XMODEM, a protocol to send computer files over phone lines.[5] Jerry Pournelle wrote in 1983 of a collection of CP/M public-domain software that "probably 50 percent of the really good programs were written by Ward Christensen, a public benefactor."[16] In May 2005, Christensen and Suess were both featured in BBS: The Documentary.[17] Christensen taught soldering techniques, until his death, through Build-a-Blinkie, a non-profit organization that hosts "learn-to-solder" events in the Great Lakes area.[12] </i></blockquote>

And then there is science. Addiction is a symptom of PTSD says Nobel Prize Winner in Medicine Eric Kandel in his book, "The Disordered Mind." Receptor science (100+ years old) says there are NO addictive drugs. Drugs fill receptors. What empties receptors (injury, PTSD) causes a desire for pain relieving drugs. Drugs CAN'T cause addiction. People take pain relievers to relieve pain. So, the Trump Strategy is to make war on people in pain to make them give up pain relief. Is that gonna work? For over 100 years - it hasn't. <br>

Emptying receptors, filling them, growing new receptors, pruning old ones - Is how your body manages pain. Addiction is caused by empty receptors. Habituation is caused by full receptors. They operate on different time scales. <br>

Habituation depends on a long term "overabundance signal". New receptors start growing if you are euphoric or at least very happy for on the order of days. "Contented" is the neutral signal. "Addiction" (desire for pain relief) is caused by something emptying receptors. The time constant for that is milliseconds (severe injury) to hours (PTSD caused leak). This is an extremely condensed explanation of what is going on. Besides administered drugs you have to consider natural endorphin production and the lifetime of a receptor. And other things. <br>
