Engagement Photo Session – Jackson, Tennessee
This past Saturday, we conducted an engagement photo session in Jackson, Tennessee. It was a hot session even though we started in the morning. We did everything we could to beat the heat and I think we were as successful as humanly possible. We had lots of fun on this session as always. Jackson, Tennessee has to be my favorite place for location shoots. There are many great spots that I have discovered and the people there are super friendly. Everyone should have a good head shot.
Everyone should have a good head shot portrait of themselves. Of course I would say that. I am a photographer after all. But think about it. Wouldn’t it be great to have a great head shot of yourself? With the popularity of social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter, most of us would get more benefit than ever from a high quality portrait of ourselves. The high quality comes into play because of the fact that social media is not just something we do for fun any longer. Many people use social media to find jobs on sites like Linked In or even their soul mate through sites like match.com and eharmony.com. If you are going to use photos on these sites, it is important that they be of high quality.

If only these days could last longer
Actually, one way to make them last longer is to capture the memories of your children and family in the form of portraits. These days with your children go by faster than you could ever imagine. As the father of a three-year-old, I know. I am so glad we have family portraits to capture the memories. As we continue to make more memories, portraits will be a large part of that. Busy is good.
Last week was quite a busy week for Photos By DK. I had two big photo shoots including the one that produced the images shown above. We had a great time working with this wonderful family. Meeting great families like this one is just one of the many added benefits of being a portrait photographer. It was a hot day that started off with heavy rain but we were able to make the most of it. I am in the process of going over the images captured from the day so I can post the final selections soon.

No high pressure sales tactics
When I talk to people and tell them I am a photographer, I inevitably hear stories about their experiences with portrait studios. Last night I heard about one person’s experience with high pressure sales tactics. That is one thing you will not experience with Photos By DK. I do not lure you in with a low price only to attempt to sell you one of everything and three different variations of the same pose so you leave spending far more than you intended in the first place. Sure, my prices might look higher on the front end but I have talked to people who have spent far more at one of these studios and left with what I feel is much less than had they allowed me to be their photographer.
The person I talked to last night also told me about how the photographer at the studio tried to have her two-year-old daughter do several poses. How do you expect a two-year-old to do poses? You are lucky to have them sit quietly without crying hysterically. This is why I am a firm believer in getting outdoors on-location and letting kids be kids. Sure, studio portraits have their place and I hope to own and operate a studio someday. However, with toddlers, it is best to let them do their thing and be there to capture it as it happens. This is how the best toddler portraits are created.
