Pathways to the Beauty of Autumn

While visiting Rycenga Park in Spring Lake, Michigan yesterday, I enjoyed the bright colors of Autumn leaves. Many were freshly fallen on the ground, while those that remained displayed their beauty from branches swaying in the breeze.

A Matter of Perspective and Scale

While enjoying the Ottawa Sands Park in Ferrysburg, Michigan, I noticed a fisherman near the shore. He was dwarfed by massive forest covered sand dunes towering over him from behind. The Autumn colors have begun to reveal themselves in the 345 acre park which includes the 80 acre inland lake being enjoyed by the lone fisherman earlier today.

Michigan Autumn

On an overcast day in Michigan this afternoon, I found some color to brighten the day.

Colorburst

I found this burst of color today while  looking down off a one lane bridge near a local park. The view provided a nice perspective.

Autumn Color

I’ve noticed that the colors of Autumn have varied greatly near me this year, with some areas well past peak color and others approaching it. I found one area this weekend that offered a nice display.

Adrift in an Abstract Sea

I spotted this Mallard duck today as it floated along in what seemed to be an abstract painting with colors spilling out all around. The sun peaked through the surrounding Autumn foliage lighting up the neon green of the bird’s head and neck while the reflections of the environment were washed away in the ripples.

Strengthening Winds

The winds along the shore of Lake Michigan built strength as the day progressed Saturday. I visited several Michigan lighthouses shown below as the wind driven waves crashed into the structures.

Nature’s Mirror

I was happy to find this shoreline of Autumn colors reflected in a small lake yesterday. I enjoy finding tranquil scenes such as this.

Turkey Time

I spotted this turkey in a wooded area today. The sun was at an angle which illuminated the bird’s feathers revealing colors I didn’t realize would be found there. The orange coloring was particularly surprising to me.

Enter the Behemoth

There is quite a bit happening in this image I captured today. The giant Great Lakes freighter Calumet, built in 1973, weighing in at over 10,000 tons and 630 feet long (192 meters), was entering the channel at Grand Haven, Michigan. The ship dwarfed the Lighthouse as a kite boarder in the foreground took in the view.
