For a long time I fretted about the future of my childten, knowing I was not going to afford the kind of education I really needed for them to have. My work took me around the country to tens of classrooms, usually in deep rural villages. I knew what newspaper stories, usually sexed up for the reading elites, meant when they reported the sorry state of education: ignorant teachers, hungry children who could not even wrote their own names in P7! I was crazy enough to homeschool when my girls started school. I don’t know how long I would have done it, kubanga that sh*t be tight! But I was not going to tolerate having some teacher force my child to say “kaliculeeta”.

That line where you say ” fascinated by the idea that after this temporary life, God will reveal to me my true name” the fact that though the scripture says new, it being given by God ideally means true name.

[…] After going postal on a Day One blog, Pete’s Mama says she was gently encouraged to write her own experience. In a 1397 worded piece, we navigate through some of the interesting highlights that marked 7 years of her primary education. From the joy of contradicting or attempting to correct one’s teacher to the chameleon like tendencies that children have to adapt in order to appease the prevailing authority. In her conclusion, she remarks on the purpose of the broken roads that we sometimes travel. Check it out here. […]

Can I just say… You are still my favourite!!
forgive the typos. Because…smart phone that’s not so smart.
]]>Your never ending convos. Some on.
]]>…you were the ignorant worms and the teacher was the infallible instructor pouring golden knowledge down your unworthy throat…
I mean, who comes up with that?!
You know, you just knocked some sense into my oblongata with that verse… True, some of the schools I went to made me beef about eduction in general. In fact one day I complained so much about the teachers in Uganda (I was hardly a teen when I did this), to the teacher of teachers (my father)… Needless to say, I had to bite my tongue.
I wasn’t a huge fan of school, but I won’t deny, it has played a huge role in who I am today.
