Interviewer: How did you construct ‘Jock-A-Mo?’
Crawford: It came from two Indian chants that I put music to. “Iko Iko” was like a victory chant that the Indians would shout. “Jock-A-Mo” was a chant that was called when the Indians went into battle. I just put them together and made a song out of them. Really it was just like “Lawdy Miss Clawdy.” That was a phrase everybody in New Orleans used. Lloyd Price just added music to it and it became a hit. I was just trying to write a catchy song….
Interviewer: Listeners wonder what ‘Jock-A-Mo’ means. Some music scholars say it translates in Mardi Gras Indian lingo as ‘Kiss my ass,’ and I’ve read where some think Jock-A-Mo was a court jester. What does it mean?
Crawford: I really don’t know. (laughs)

I simply want to comment on (agree with) the observations of
Schroeder915 on Air America in New Orleans. I have already expressed
my thoughts to WWL and to the T-P (though the latter may not see the
light of day). We must get together and do something to restore AA
to the New Orleans area!

Tom, Schroeder915 – I’m in complete agreement with both of you here. I have also written a letter to the T-P (as has my brother, who is equally outraged) and sent in my comments to WWL. I’ve left messages for several people involved and have attempted to contact some of the resonsible individuals (e.g. Mr. Beck) at Entercom. I was particularly bothered by the questionable timing of this change, but the fact that it was made in the first place – just plain wrong. If WSMB won’t carry AA and Progressive Talk, I hope someone else will – and I also hope that they ADVERTISE it, which is something that WSMB never did. I just learned about WSMB/AA last month, and immediately started listening every day. I would have tuned in much earlier if I had known, but instead I had to discover it by accident…
