About PELLTA
PELLTA is a professional non-profit and non-governmental organisation based in Penang, Malaysia. Membership is open to all who are interested in the teaching and learning of the English language. Through our workshops and biennial ELT conferences, we strive to provide opportunities for the sharing of expertise and experiences among teachers and non-teachers alike.

Challenging and Engaging All Your Learners
31 May 2025: In conjunction with PELLTA's 36th AGM, Dr. Leslie Barratt, Professor Emerita of Linguistics from Indiana State University, USA conducted an interesting workshop with interactive activities to keep their students engaged in their learning. She highlighted three key characteristics of engaging activities : positive emotion, curiosity/creativity/interest and physical movement.
Canva for Education webinar: Wow your Classroom with AI!15 March 2025: This webinar was conducted by Pipit Indrawati, a Canva for Education trainer for Indonesia and South-east Asia. Pipit shared the latest AI features from Canva and demonstrated how teachers could utilise these features to design presentations for the various classes that they teach. It was indeed an eye-opener and the participants gained interesting ideas using Canva for their classrooms. It's Not About Your Presentation! |
Student-Centered Communicative Classrooms18 January 2025: This fun workshop was conducted by Carol Petersen, an English Language Fellow of the US Embassy, Kuala Lumpur based in UiTM Johor. It was a morning filled with interesting , engaging activities that teachers could easily adapt to suit their learner needs. 24 August 2024: This workshop on how to design and create engaging presentations was conducted by Niranjana Dhawan from Sunway University, Malaysia. The participants had a very hands-on session and gained many tips on essential presentation skills ranging from colour and design of the slides to how to express their ideas effectively.

21 September 2024: This interesting webinar on using Malaysian Folkore in the language classroom was presented by Norzetty Md Zahir, a creative secondary school teacher from Kuala Lumpur. She captured her audience's attention by sharing the various ways she engaged and enhanced her students' language skills using favourite local folk tales.

25 May 2024: This interesting workshop by Assoc. Prof. Tamas Kiss from Sunway University, Malaysia was held in conjunction with PELLTA's 35th. AGM. The participants were led through a series of exciting activities that served to link language, literature and culture in the participants' teaching contexts.

13 July 2024: In this workshop, Prof. Shahid Abrar-ul-Hassan from Yorkville University, Canada, shared some key concepts in assessment and also suggested some strategies in designing alternative assessments.
