Required Viewing | Our Descent Into Madness
Required Viewing
We have been very influenced by movies and shows. Some of the more important ones…
Movies:
Girl, Interrupted (we really like the book, too)
When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts
The End of Suburbia: Oil Depletion and the Collapse of the American Dream. Unfortunately, the only speakers in this (very important) movie are middle-aged white men. If you look closely, though, there are a handful of scenes in which you might be able to spot someone who happens to be female and/or not white, standing silently in the background.
Stealing America: Vote by Vote
Salt of the Earth (Why on earth isn’t this movie shown in schools across the US? It should be.)
Shows:

Maybe add ‘V for Vendetta’ to that list. It’s a must see.

I’m totally digging the movie list, but what about adding some older movies?

Like what, Steve?

Thanks Steve! As Emily implied — suggestions welcome. :)

Bill Maher, HBO.

You know, I must say I’m not a fan of Bill Maher. He may be a democrat, but he doesn’t cater to many of my liberal sensibilities. He’s very sexist and homophobic, for instance. I prefer Jon Steward, Comedy Central.

Yeah, Jon Stewart’s awesome.

I’d like to recommend the film EARTHLINGS – the best film showing the truth of industrialized animal production and slaughter, and other instances of mankind’s betrayal of the creatures of our planet. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions, Zona. Sounds like an awesome movie. We will definitely check it out.

Check out the documentary “No Way Out”, a scathing indictment of the current administration’s continuing debacle in Iraq, straight from the mouths of former and current high-ranking military personnel, among others…..prepare to be more depressed than you thought possible with this one…
Also, the TV show, “Weeds”. Monday nights on Showtime.

Andy Goldsworthy’s “River and Tides” has some awesome art centered around sustainability and the environment, such as icicle sculptures that melt with the sunrise.
