It is more important to do _something_ there are long games (systems such as capitalism) and then there are short gains (efficiency) we need both to combat climate change.

For example knowing the carbon footprint of a product does not solve the problem, but it does increase our knowledge. For example: in terms of carbon 1kg of cheese is as bad as a pair of trainers. Do people know that cheese is that bad?

But population needs to be controlled. As the beloved David Attenborough:

All our environmental problems become easier to solve with fewer people, and harder – and ultimately impossible – to solve with ever more people.
