Update on us.

An overcast day wasn't conducive to doing anything other than having breakfast accompanied by an episode of Jeeves and Wooster before Fair Damsel listened to a Terry Pratchett story whilst I had a lengthy nap.

Later, Fair Damsel hit upon the idea of forgoing our traditional Sunday dinner in favour of Paella with chicken, chorizo (sausage), and mussels. It was absolutely Sunbeamadelicious!😋

Afterwards, we watched an episode of Death in Paradise.

The latest trend in the crochet community seems to be jester hats. So, I jumped on the bandwagon and made a fool of myself. 🃏

I finally used some yarn that my brother gave me years ago. I'd been waiting for just the right project. My resolution for 2026 is: stop hoarding and use it! No more saving things for a special occasion. Life is a special occasion.

As if the debacle with The Lord Of The Rings boxed set hadn't been bad enough, another mystery unfolded late last night when Fair Damsel commented that she could finish a headband she was crocheting if she had pink hair elastic.

Me, "Isn't there some with the ones I gave you for Christmas?"

Fair Damsel, "You didn't give me any for Christmas."

Me, "I did... I wrapped them and put them in your stocking."

There followed a rapid searching of Christmas stocking, reusable Christmas paper box, bedroom, and finally the bag for recycled paper which is kept downstairs. Alas, it was all to no avail.

This morning, I was moving the laundry basket, where I had briefly stored the presents after wrapping them, when the peg bag fell open and there was her wrapped present of hair elastic.

Today was my first opportunity to try and sort out a bizarre situation with one of Fair Damsel's Christmas presents that had caused great disappointment on both our parts when she opened it.

The present in question was an elegant boxed set of 'The Lord of The Rings' cup and saucer which I had presented to her as the last present of the day. Imagine her disappointment and my total confusion when she opened the box, reached inside, and l... withdrew a cup and saucer emblazoned with DC logos; including Batman and Robin.

This afternoon, I returned it to the store and was met with astonishment mingled with disbelief from the young male cashier. At first he informed me that he couldn't do anything because the time period for a refund had expired. There was a baffled silence from me before he relented and said that I could exchange it if they had another one instore, but that I would have to look for it myself. An hour later, I returned empty handed resigned to taking home a Batman and Robin set to hide in a cupboard. Fortunately, he took one look at me, smiled, and refunded the full amount paid.
