I, too, have been re-reading my mother’s journal and am engrossed in her perspective on her world and her way of expressing it. Yet she generally felt it wasn’t necessary to process her feelings and her life the way I enjoy (even it involves painful moments) – much to learn about.

This is a wonderful entry Thalia! You inspire me to pull out my mother’s journals from the time when she got so much pleasure out of engaging in my writing workshops.

you are so very right in everything you said! i deal with death and the coming death of friends in my gilda’s club group every day. right now one of the group members has an oncologist who won’t let her go–he keeps trying new protocols and she finally just stopped showing up and went on vacation, but called and left him a message letting him know that her quality of life was more important right now and she didn’t want to die in pain and agony from side effects.

What a wonderful tribute to the sanctity of dying. I read several books about it when my dad was terminal and found it such a comfort to know what was normal and what wasn’t. This is just lovely.

you covered so much ground in this story – present, past, future, hospice, donkeys, eons, patterns, chakras, connections, caring – I lov eyour answer to how do you deal with the loss – one person at a time, connecting with them, so they are not alone at the end – it’s the only way, isn’t it? And the metaphors – so rich! The shell with the spines to keep one from sinking, the spine to house the nerves & conduit to the brain – this is rich writing indeed!

we all would prefer to have a natural death in hospice or at home with hospice care–the group is recurring/metastatic cancer so we live with our probable death inside us. the not-knowing is far worse than knowing.
thank you for this letter. it is very beautiful and peaceful and shows your heart.
