Barcelona Declaration
In May 2024 OPERAS signed the Barcelona declaration as a supporting member. OPERAS believes that this declaration is in keeping with the idea and fundamental principle that scientific knowledge must be free, shared and questioned in order to further our understanding of our societies and to further the record and archive of human knowledge.
CoARA
OPERAS signed the CoARA Agreement for Reforming Research Assessment which aims to recognise the diverse outputs, practices and activities that maximise the quality and impact of research for the research, researchers and research organisations assessment in November 2022. Furthermore, OPERAS is committed to provide services for researchers that can enable the full range of practices in the SSH field. The topic of reforming research assessment was also included among the topics of the relevant OPERAS Advocacy Special Interest Group.

EOSC
The European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) provides European researchers, innovators, companies, governments and citizens with a federated and open multi-disciplinary environment where they can publish, find and reuse data, tools and services for research, innovation and educational purposes. EOSC is built upon FAIR data and services. The EOSC conceptual framework and its objective of “making Open Science the new normal” perfectly resonates to OPERAS’ vision, mission and strategy. OPERAS is working with the community to provide suitable tools, services and skills to onboard social sciences and humanities data and publications into EOSC. Therefore, OPERAS participates in the Skills4EOSC project and has some of its services listed in the EOSC marketplace.
Action Plan for Diamond Open Access
Together with Science Europe, cOAlition S, and the French National Research Agency (ANR), OPERAS developed an Action Plan to further develop and expand a sustainable, community-driven Diamond OA scholarly communication ecosystem. The Action Plan proposes the alignment and development of common resources for the entire Diamond OA ecosystem, including journals and platforms. This is to be done in a manner that respects the cultural, multilingual, and disciplinary diversity that constitutes the strength of the sector.
POSI
To demonstrate our commitment to the research community and to provide robust support, OPERAS did a self-assessment on the Principles of Open Scholarly Infrastructure (POSI). These guidelines are designed to direct the operation and sustainability of open scholarly infrastructure organizations and initiatives that serve the research community. The three key areas of the self-assessment around Governance, Sustainability and Insurance show our current progress in achieving a sustainable future. OPERAS will implement a regular monitoring process to update its commitment to the POSI principles.
RDA Tiger
In order to continue the effort to combine multilingualism and FAIR principles through the GoTriple multilingual vocabulary for the SSH, OPERAS took a participation in the RDA TIGER project. The objective is to set up within RDA a global working group to address challenges concerning the interoperability multilingual nature of SSH controlled vocabularies. Strongly connected with SSHOC activities related with controlled vocabularies in the SSH, the RDA working group led by OPERAS will bring together international experts to provide guidelines to create and manage multilingual vocabularies.
SSHOC
SSHOC, the SSH Open Cluster, is one of the clusters cooperating within the ESFRI landscape, aiming to transform the social sciences & humanities data landscape into an integrated, cloud-based network of interconnected data infrastructures. OPERAS, as a Governing Board member of SSHOC, plays a key role in shaping the cluster’s strategic direction and implementation. This involvement reflects OPERAS’ commitment to fostering collaboration and promoting open scholarly communication in the SSH domain.
