About the Journal

The Transnational Criminal Law Review is an open access, peer reviewed journal focused on transnational criminal law. The phrase ‘transnational criminal law’ refers to the law that applies to crimes that cross or threaten to cross state boundaries. The Transnational Criminal Law Review invites manuscripts from authors around the globe, concerning all areas of transnational criminal law, including substantive, evidentiary, and procedural law; theoretical, critical, and doctrinal issues relating to transnational criminal law; and interdisciplinary perspectives.   

Published twice yearly, the Transnational Criminal Law Review  publishes full length academic articles, subject to double blind peer review. It also publishes shorter pieces, such as case comments, book reviews, and reports on new developments in the field. The journal is open access in order to enable free access for everyone interested in transnational criminal law. The journal targets an audience of legal scholars, criminologists, and social scientists, as well as legal practitioners, policy-makers, and students. 

The TCLR is an open access journal, as anyone can freely "read, download, copy, distribute, print, search for and search within the information," with no financial, legal, or technical barriers. All articles published in the TCLR are available to all users under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. This fulfills fulfils the DOAJ definition of open access.

To coincide with the 25th anniversary of the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), a new special issue of the Transnational Criminal Law Review looks at the challenges faced by the UNTOC and its Protocols, the controversies associated with their development, content, and implementation, and highlights the many achievements of these instruments which give reason to celebrate this anniversary. Vol. 4 No. 1 (2025) of the Transnational Criminal Law Review, entitled ‘The United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crime Turns 25: Challenges, Celebrations, and Controversies’ (https://ojs.uwindsor.ca/index.php/nlj/issue/current) has been co-edited by Andreas Schloenhardt, Professor at the University of Queensland, Brisbane (Australia) and the University of Vienna (Austria); Bettina Weisser, Professor at the University of Cologne (Germany), and Neil Boister, Professor at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch (New Zealand)
