I’m glad to hear you were into the last two as well as the second one! The Ferrante Letters is great—academic but not too difficult and personal as well.

Yes! I’ve read so many good books by Asian American women (Nicole Chung and Cathy Park Hong come to mind right away). I have a copy of Two Trees Make a Forest but haven’t gotten there yet. How to Pronounce Knife sounds interesting!

Oh, yes, those books are both great. I think anyone interested in reading about books and art would enjoy them.

Since I’m a contributor to Asian American Press, I pay much attention to Asian American writers, most of them are North American born or came here while young, so they write in English. Not women in translation, but still a wonderful source of literary talents. And I’m glad to note that some are right here in my country Canada. I’ve reviewed Jessica J. Lee’s nature writing/memoir Two Trees Make a Forest, and just a week ago, the 2020 Giller Prize winner Souvankham Thammavongsa’s short story collection: How to Pronounce Knife. She was born in a Lao refugee camp in Thailand, learned English when her family was sponsored to come to Canada. Amazing story.

I’m sorry I missed this Arti! I’ve basically ignored my blog all fall. I’ve fallen in love with Japanese and Korean women writers — so much good stuff!

Yes, I tried adding notes for awhile, but I’m not on my laptop enough to make it work. If I could add notes from the app, that would be awesome.

Wed, 19 Aug 2020 13:14:44 +0000https://ofbooksandbikes.com/?p=5295#comment-91041I use GR’s notes field to record why I might be interested in a book. It’s not sortable, alas, and it’s not accessible from the mobile version that I can tell.
