Why we’re here.

Why we oppose the fee rises and cuts to education

Hull Students against Fees and Cuts is opposed to the savage

cuts to education proposed by the government. Post-secondary

education is the cornerstone of a thriving democracy and economy.

Increasing the barriers for those who wish to better themselves

as individuals and as members of a modern, developed

society risks destroying that society. Our ancestors fought for access

to this level of education so that they could reap the rewards

of their work and give their children the chances they didn’t have.

Do not allow their efforts to be wasted.

This IS an affordable goal

The UK loses £120bn a year from unpaid tax. For comparison,

public spending on all education in 2010 was £86bn. Free education

for all is easily achievable.

We are not alone

To date there have been over 25 UK occupations at universities

including Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds, Manchester and LSE. These

occupations are ongoing, and we wish them every success.

It’s not just a student fight!

We are in solidarity with workers facing cuts to their jobs and services,

such as the Connaught Workers in Hull and Fire-Fighters

nationally. The occupation supports Hull Against the Cuts – a coalition

of trade-unionists and activists in opposition to the government’s

ideological cuts agenda.

We can make a difference

Occupations achieve some of their demands. After 51 hours of

occupation, London South Bank Uni agreed to all of the demands

made by the occupation.

We need YOUR help

Student or worker can come along and join in at any time, even if

you disagree! Show your opposition to crippling education cuts

and support your fellow students.
