Northern Star is preparing to choose its editor in chief for the spring 2026 semester. This is the top position at the student operated newspaper. Duties include: overseeing all departments and employees, hiring, firing and being the final authority for all content. He or she assigns, edits and writes news stories and editorials. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be an NIU student in good academic standing. Must be enrolled at NIU with a minimum of 6 credit hours. Must have worked at the Northern Star at least two semesters and must have been a Northern Star editor, or assistant editor for at least one semester. OR Must have worked at least two semesters for a campus or community general audience newspaper, and must have been an editor at that paper at least one semester. Must be an NIU student in good academic standing. Must be enrolled at NIU with a minimum of 6 credit hours. APPLICATION DEADLINE: November 3, 2025. Applications are accepted and reviewed by Northern Star Publication Board, which interviews candidates and forward all names to the Northern Star Management Board, which is made up of student managers and editors. That board makes the final decision.
