About A Boy
Nothing out of the ordinary…
My name is Mike. I am a 30 year old boy. I call myself a boy because I don’t feel like a man yet. I’m not sure what being a man feels like, but I still feel like a boy.
I’m just a normal boy. I’m not incredibly fascinating, but I’m also not too boring either. I don’t have special talents, but I do have regular talents, and I’m adequate at them. I’m sort of like a Jack of all trades (master of none), but more like a Jack of some trades, definitely not master of anything. Oh, except that I have master’s degrees in mathematics and statistics, and my name isn’t Jack.
My favorite book is “The World of Normal Boys” by K.M. Soehnlein. The name of this blog is based on that book. I immediately related to the main character of the book after reading just the first chapter. The book is about a boy named Robin, growing up gay and feeling like the world is full of normal boys (of which he is not one). The irony, of course, is that Robin (like me) is actually just a normal boy, coming to terms with himself and the world in which he lives.

Great introduction. I feel similar actually – as I guess most people would not consider me boy anymore – that`s if they know my age of course. But I feel much younger anyway – sort of Peter Pan`s thingy

I turned 31 last year and my partner will be turning 30 in a few months. We often talked about not feeling like adults. My partner is having major issues about turning 30, but honestly, I don’t see the problem with it.

Hey there! I am really enjoying your blog. Just wanted to pop in and say so. I’m rather new at this website so am still learning the ropes (and I’m rather slow)…
Have a great day!

Hey California,
I have been getting updates spoken to me, but thought I would check it out myself. You are the top hit when searching google for “target grad school gay actuary” (though it turns out that “gay” is superfluous).
Okay I have a bunch of reading to do, but take it easy.

I came across your journal searching for “dealing with gay crush” and since then been reading many of your entries. You bring up many good issues in your entries, and you express your views in logics I understand and agree with. You and I are somewhat similar, thus I am going to post reply here very often 🙂

Intriguing. I’ve seen coming of age films with a plot like The World of Normal Boys and they’re my favourites.
Will go hunt for this book this weekend.

I had heard a while ago that they were going to make a movie out of The World of Normal Boys, but I think there was a funding issue. I love those kinds of movies too. Have you seen Beautiful Thing?

Dear (your name),
I do have the same situation with you. I really want to have chances to share about this. If you don’t mind, let me know your mail address and correspond to each other.
Thank you,
