About

Many thousands of people in Northern Ireland are friends of Israel and of the Jewish people. Northern Ireland Friends of Israel is a grassroots organisation to strengthen that friendship.

We hold educational and cultural events; advocate for Israel; and encourage visits between both countries.

Our President is Gerald Steinberg and our chair is Steven Jaffe.

Many thousands have attended our events since our launch in 2009.

In 2024, 300 people enjoyed a concert of Israeli and Jewish music in Belfast.

Our Mission Statement is:

1.  to strengthen cultural, economic and political ties between Northern Ireland and Israel, to benefit the people of both countries;

2. to engage with those who work towards  a peaceful, just and lasting resolution of the conflict between Israel and its neighbours;

3. to encourage reconciliation between Jews and Arabs, drawing upon examples of reconciliation in Northern Ireland; and to learn from the examples of Jews and Arabs working together in Israel to enhance reconciliation at home; and

4. to obtain recognition from all parties in Northern Ireland that a secure and confident Israel is vital to achieving peace, a matter of justice to the Jewish people, and a blessing to the whole world.
