Sun, 07 Jul 2013 14:02:18 +0000#comment-47741Hello. I’m an American living in the UK with an Egyptian husband. We visit Cairo often to see family. I recently have found out that Egypt has the highest rate of female circumcision in all the world and I’m struggling to find any real accounts from Egyptian women about the subject, their views and beliefs, other than older books written by Nawal El Saadawi from the 1970’s. I’m curious as to why female circumcision is still so widespread in Egypt regardless of the 2008 ban, and where this practice takes place and how Egyptian women feel about it. I would be very interested to read what you have to say about this subject. Thank you.

Fri, 15 Feb 2013 03:47:37 +0000#comment-46452Hi Nerro,
My name is Omniya Baghdadi, an egyptian woman living in Brisbane, Australia. I received an email whilst at work regarding an event dedicated to women and was inspired to be the voice of Egyptian women…
I have been deeply saddened by the numerous (..numerous..how sad that I use such a word) attacks taking place against the gems in Egyptian society, women. Without thinking twice, I responded to the organisers of this event and requested for a spot to speak. I then commenced my online search for inspiring female bloggers and found you.
Therefore, I would love to tell your story, along with other women that would like to be heard. Would you like to put together a story for me to read out? These are stories definitely worth telling. I am happy to assist in ANY way possible..
p.s: If time permits, I would also like to read it prior to this event..at another public speaking event taking place next week.
Lots of love and respect,
Omniya

Tue, 10 May 2011 15:26:39 +0000#comment-45992Dear Nermeen,
I am writing to you from Sisters against Violent Extremism (SAVE), the counter-terrorism platform of Women without Borders, works to empower women all over the world to take an active role in the efforts against violent extremism and radicalisation and to realise and bring in their potential to solve conflicts and prevent acts of terrorism.
A part of our team will be travelling to Cairo from Friday, 13 May to Friday 20 May 2011 to gain more insight into the developments in Egypt, especially with regard to the role of women in the pro-democracy movement. We are very interested in meeting Egyptians who have closely followed the events and are putting forward their opinions and facilitate discussions on their blogs.
We found your blog/contributions to blogs on the internet and would like to suggest a meeting to discuss the situation in Egypt as you perceive it. We would also be most interested to discuss the possibility of future collaborative projects.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require any further information. We look forward to hearing from you!
