Before photoshop, they used an airbrush to paint away the problems… it was called photo re-touching, and was so time consuming, and expensive in terms of skilled artists who could do it, that it was most common in Hollywood.

A significant amount of the Hot Rod Magazine early color transparencies have lost blue, leaving a noticeable magenta cast over the image. Restoring color balance is an art. Some results are better than others.
