Hello All,
I wanted to start off by just sharing a little about who I am and what I do. I was raised and currently live in Michigan. I have many interests and have several businesses. I am a firm believer in working for yourself and doing what you love to do. I have very strong feelings against working a 9 to 5 and making someone else’s dreams come true. My last 9 to 5 job was actually what I considered to be my dream job. I was the Communications Director for a nonprofit organization. I did events, public relations, human resources, marketing, websites, graphics and worked with young people… all things that I love. The only problem is that I was doing it for someone else; their mission, their rules, their dream.
I directed my first wedding 22 years ago and have never stopped. I kept the traditional 9 to 5 but always had my own business on the side. Nine years ago I worked my last day for someone else. The opportunity presented itself and I took it. At the time, my sister and I had two companies… the wedding planning company and a corporate events company. I was passionate about doing weddings but not so much for the corporate events. My new philosophy… If I’m going to work, I’m going to do what I love. That was the end of the corporate events.
My purpose for this blog is to share some of the knowledge that I have acquired during my years of coordinating weddings. Some may think that coordinating weddings is no different than putting together any other party. It is however, much more involved. Weddings are very personal and highly emotional for the people involved. So not only do I have to make the bride and groom’s wedding dream come true, I also have to drive the emotional rollercoaster that the couple ride throughout the process. Not to mention all the family politics and possible security issues that we must be prepared for on wedding day. The 20+ years of dealing with all the ins and outs of weddings has given me an interesting perspective on life, love and relationships.
…until next time.
