Hello

I am a tenure-track assistant professor at EPFL where I head the NeuroAI Lab; with appointments at the School of Life Sciences, and the School of Computer and Communication Sciences.

My research focuses on a computational understanding of the neural mechanisms underlying natural intelligence. To achieve this goal, I bridge research in Machine Learning, Neuroscience, and Cognitive Science. We initiated the community-wide Brain-Score platform for evaluating models on their neural and behavioral alignment, and built state-of-the-art models such as CORnet, VOneNet, and TopoLM.

I completed my PhD at MIT with Jim DiCarlo, following Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in computer science at TUM, LMU, and UNA. Previously I worked at Harvard, MetaMind/Salesforce, Oracle, and co-founded two startups. I’m actively advancing NeuroAI into translational technologies as a scientific advisor to startups. My work has been featured in BBC, NZZ, Science Magazine, and honored with fellowships by the Schmidt Foundation AI2050 and Takeda, the MIT Open Data Prize, and a Google.org award, among others.
