I have been working & pondering & fretting & organizing & worrying & re-working our plan for this school year. Part of the reason it has been such a huge burden for me is that it is BeamBunny’s Senior Year! We want to make sure that she has everything she needs to graduate from H.S. and be equipped for wherever the Lord takes her from our homeschool. We are encouraging her to go to college, but she is not sure that that is God’s plan for her. So we are going to plug along and do what we need to do right now and continue to pray over God’s plan for the future.
We have a new-ish name for our homeschool. While we were in Mississippi we participated in a homeschool co-op at our church. The name of the co-op was/is HEARTS. HEARTS stands for: Home Educated And Raised To Serve. We have asked if we might adopt this for the name of our homeschool as well. We are now the HEARTS Academy. With much prayer our goal is to homeschool our children and raise them to serve the Lord. I pray every day that we are accomplishing His will for our family.
For BeamBunny: After much prayer & discussion and “waffling” between lots of different things we have finally decided that BJU Online school is the best option. A large part of this decision goes back to last year. We chose to use BJU DVD classes for our Krew last year with the intent that BB would do the same program this year. We had some indecision and I thought the proverbial grass would be greener somewhere else with another curriculum, but after much prayer decided that we needed to follow through with what we started for her last year. SO….BB’s Senior year will be quite busy. She will be doing BJU Online school for her curriculum….but I couldn’t leave it at that! We will also be adding in lots of studying and prayerfully passing some CLEP tests. Our goal is for her to leave our homeschool with some college credits. We don’t feel she should be in a college environment yet, but by taking some CLEP tests she will be able to head into college with some of her basic course credits already accomplished.
For the rest of the Krew: We will be using Illuminations 1{Ill} as our guide.
ALL 3! Kids: The kids will be doing these things using the same books or even together. This will be a bit of a challenge because Neo is 9th grade, KitKat 6th & Minnie Mouse 2/3 grade.
Bible: We will be following The Mystery of History’s Bible Readings as listed in Illuminations = {Ill}.
History: Mystery of History Vol. 1 {Ill}
Literature: Ancient Literature {Ill}
Eng/Comp: Copywork {Ill} and IEW…initially we will use IEW Student Writing Intensive Level B. I think once we have learned the style of writing we will move into Ancient History-Based Writing Lessons.
Typing: Working on their Typing skills using Typing Instructor Deluxe or Mavis Beacon Typing.
NEO: These are the things that Neo will be doing onhis own {9th grade}
MATH: Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1
Grammar: Winston Grammar & Winston Grammar Advanced
Vocab: English From the Roots Up {Ill}
Foreign Lang.: Spanish 1: Auralog Tell Me More
KITKAT: These are the things that KitKat will be doing on her own {6th Grade}
MATH: Teaching Textbooks Math 6
GRAMMAR: Winston Grammar
Vocab: English From the Roots Up {Ill} might possibly move from Grammar & Vocab to Learning Language Arts Through Literature…Orange or Yellow book
MINNIE MOUSE: These are the things that she will be doing on her own {2/3 Grade}
MATH: Miquon & Singapore, might move into Horizons 2/3…need to guage where we are once we get started. Math has been a struggle for her so we are taking slow and making sure she really HAS it before moving on.
READING: Abeka readers…all of 2nd grade readers and hopefully all of the 3rd grade readers. She has really taken off with reading and doesn’t want to slow down.
HANDWRITING: Pentime Manuscript & copywork assignments {Ill}.
There is still some tweaking that needs to be done once I actually recieve all of our books. I bought everythign tonight but don’t expect to receive anything till at least next week. I hope to begin downloading and setting up our notebooks this weekend.
SO….that is our plan for this year. Prayerfully everything will go well.
