Not every journey is a pleasant picture post card adventure with stunning views, sunsets and wildlife. Sometimes things are just shite.
My day started out great, we headed out for an hour or so in the van then went for a spot of lunch in the glorious sunshine at the Sound Cafe, a very pleasant spot at the far south of the Island.
Anyway from there we decided it would be great idea to head out for the night and decided to stop off at Laxey a very picturesque village just north of Douglas.
We parked up. I got some food on the go and we enjoyed the sunshine.
All fantastic so far you say. Yes great but then things started to go downhill.
First off, I was sat chilling reading and decided to open the window on the van. Not sure what happened, whether I was a bit too heavy handed but needless to say I managed to break it.
Part of the inner screen completely came away from the window still attached to the strut. Cost to replace in the region of £1000.
Then as I was trying to repair it I cut my hand. Only slightly but it’s like a paper cut, stinging.
Now after I had calmed down and took some deep breaths, decided that it was just one of those things, I made a brew and went to bed.
Mrs Meander was asleep and I was just falling into that nice relaxed state, the moon was shining through the window, the surf was breaking on the shore.
Then I screamed.
Something had bit me, stung me or the wife had injected me with something.
I jumped up as did the wife turned on the light to find a honey bee in the bed. I had turned over and lay on it with my arm so it did the only thing they know, and stung me.
Fortunately it didn’t leave anything in me nor did I have a reaction. Small blessing.
Anyway, we chilled for the rest of the night, woke to rain, packed up and went to visit my dad to make his lunch.
So here I am writing this blog in Accident and Emergency as dad has a bad infection in and around his eye!
So this weekend, with the good lady back home, we decided to take another meander up to the Point of Ayre (See previous blog for more details on the area)
What another fantastic trip with spectacular sunsets, great wildlife and some amazing memories.
The van is working better than I had hoped, comfortable and practical, although we have added a few things on the list of stuff to get, including a wind break, as my wind burnt legs and face will attest to.
We both managed a nice hot shower and considering we only have a small van this was very impressive, our boiler is pretty good gives out a decent amount of heat and hot water.
I have spent the past two days either bird watching or walking the dog while Mrs Meander has relaxed and more importantly stopped and read her book which has enabled her to unwind and just forget about work and everything else that life throws her way.
We have moved slightly around the coast just for a different view and to be closer to the shore so I could have a fire. When I say moved around the coast I mean by about 300 meters, but even that small amount has changed our perspective totally.
Managed to get to see a large group of Seals lounging in the sunshine on the shoreline it was amazing to watch as the young pups playing in the surf. The wildlife in this area is just so beautiful and diverse.
Anyway just a quick blog, I will let the photographs say the rest!
