State of MariaDB 2025: The Results Are In

In October 2025, we launched the first State of MariaDB Survey to learn how the community really uses MariaDB. Today, we’re excited to share the results.

Why we did this

We wanted to move beyond assumptions and get real data from the people who work with MariaDB every day—developers, DBAs, architects, consultants, and everyone in between. The goal was simple: understand how MariaDB is actually being used so we can make it better.

What we learned

The survey covered seven areas: background and experience, organizational use, use cases, tech stacks, deployment practices, challenges, and community engagement.

Multimodal-Metadata-Hub for MariaDB Vector – Innovation 2nd place at MariaDB BangPypers Hackathon 2025

We recently announced the winners of the MariaDB Python Hackathon. We sat down with the Innovation track second place winners to learn more about the team and their submission.

Sunny Kumar, Abhijeet Dhanotiya, Anuj Gupta, Tushan Kumar Sinha, and Anand Vyas developed Metadata-Hub, a multimodal semantic search application using MariaDB Vector and OpenAI’s CLIP model. They were interviewed by Robert Silén, Community Advocate and Kaj Arnö, Executive Chairman of MariaDB Foundation. For the recorded interview, watch it on Youtube, or read the interview below.

Before we start, a short explanation:

QUAPE Joins the MariaDB Foundation as a Silver Sponsor

We are delighted to welcome QUAPE, a Singapore-based leader in high-performance hosting and IT infrastructure, as a Silver Sponsor of the MariaDB Foundation.

Founded in 2006, QUAPE provides enterprise-grade hosting solutions for businesses across Asia and beyond — from dedicated servers and VPS platforms to cybersecurity and custom software development. Their long-standing focus on reliability, speed, and scalable infrastructure mirrors the values we uphold within the MariaDB ecosystem.

One of the core responsibilities of the Foundation is to maintain and advance the MariaDB buildbot infrastructure: the continuous integration system that tests every change, validates every platform, and keeps MariaDB Server stable for millions of users worldwide.

Mirror, Mirror on DB-Engines: The MariaDB Story

Mirror, mirror on the wall — what do you measure when you measure us all?
Is it skill, or is it voice?
Is it code, or is it conversation?
DB-Engines is not a looking glass of perfection, but a mirror of perception — reflecting the chorus of those who search, speak, teach, compare, and build. And like every enchanted mirror, it shows not only what is, but what the world believes it sees.

MariaDB today stands firmly among the world’s top relational databases.
Not by inheritance, and not by illusion, but by the millions who use it, trust it, and shape it.

Adaptive Query Optimizer for MariaDB Vector – Innovation Winner of MariaDB Python Hackathon 2025

We recently announced the winners  of the MariaDB Python Hackathon. We sat down with the Innovation track first place winners to learn more about the team and their submission.

Aakanksha Singh and Mihir Phalke developed an Adaptive Query Optimizer for MariaDB Vector, addressing performance challenges in vector similarity search operations. They were interviewed by Robert Silén, Community Advocate and Kaj Arnö, Executive Chairman of MariaDB Foundation. For the recorded interview, watch it on Youtube, or read the interview below.
