Evolving Education

For psychedelics to be most safely integrated into society, we need to be honest about the implications. MAPS recognizes the importance of a comprehensive understanding of their risks and potential benefits, teaching people how to navigate altered states of consciousness and how policies impact individuals and communities.

We create cutting-edge education for professionals and the public, provide expert support for the psychedelic and drug policy movement, and convene people who share our vision—all to lay the groundwork and create the guardrails necessary for responsible social transformation.

As psychedelics become more mainstream and an increasing number of people seek to use them for healing and personal growth, we are more dedicated than ever to making resources available for people and communities to safely and responsibly integrate psychedelics into medical, legal, and spiritual contexts.

Psychedelic Education for Professionals

Navigating a psychedelic crisis requires utmost care. In partnership with the City of Denver, MAPS created a first-of-its-kind training program for police departments, fire and EMS, and mental health professionals. The program rolled out citywide in 2024 to provide comprehensive training on psychedelic crisis assessment and intervention to the city’s 3000 first responders.

MAPS’ International Therapist Education Program is designed to equip care providers with theoretical fundamentals and best practices in psychedelic-assisted therapies. These education programs are one of many steps to bringing this therapeutic approach to areas of greatest need around the globe.

MAPS Publications

The MAPS Bulletin, first published as a one-page newsletter in 1988, is one of the longest-running publications covering psychedelic policy, science, and culture. From counterculture legacies to today’s visionaries, the MAPS Bulletin features original articles from many prominent names in psychedelics. Today, the Bulletin editorial team is honored to platform voices that are less frequently heard in mainstream psychedelia alongside the most renowned experts.

Original articles are published online weekly, and print editions of the Bulletin are distributed as an educational tool for scientists, researchers, government officials, educators, people impacted by the drug war, and those fighting to end it.

Since 2001, MAPS-published books have brought new ideas to the field and kept long-standing classics in print. Our 19th publication, The Journal of the Psychonaut, was released at Psychedelic Science 2023. Books like Ketamine Papers, LSD My Problem Child, and Ayahuasca Religions are available from booksellers everywhere and available in the MAPS Bookstore alongside a carefully curated book selection featuring a diverse range of authors from around psychedelia. Discover works from renowned figures like Stan Grof and Gabor Maté as well as fresh voices and emerging thinkers in the field.

Whether you’re a seasoned psychonaut or just beginning your journey, our collection offers valuable insights and perspectives to deepen your understanding and appreciation of the psychedelic experience.
