General contributions information
We welcome poems that have not been previously published, either in print, online or broadcast. Poems may be sent via Submittable or by post if you live in the UK. Postal submissions are not acknowledged until a decision is made.
Contribution deadlines can be found on the Current Call for Submissions page. Poems are considered for one issue only. We write to contributors as soon as a decision is made. As Magma receives a very large number of poems, we cannot consider more than 4 poems per poet per issue which must be sent in a single document or postal submission.
See The Magazine and the Magma Archive to gain an idea of the type of work we accept.
Magma has moved all its submissions online to Submittable. Submissions will no longer be read if sent to our Magma email address. If you don’t have an account, you can create a new one easily in a couple of minutes. We accept contributions by post from the UK only, addressed to:
Laurie Smith,
Magma Contributions
23 Pine Walk
Carshalton
SM5 4ES
Postal contributions must be accompanied by an s.a.e. The writer’s name must appear on each page. Postal submissions post-marked on the closing day of the submission period will be considered.

Update on Poetry Submission Fees
As many of our readers and contributors know, our magazine is run by volunteers — our Trustees, editors and other Board members give their time freely. However, the costs of running the magazine continue to rise. Submittable fees, printing, postage and production costs, and other essential expenses have all increased in recent years – as have the numbers of submissions.
To help us manage these growing costs and to ensure the magazine can continue in a sustainable way, we are introducing a small submission fee for poetry. Submissions will remain free for subscribers and for those on benefits. For non-subscribers, there will be a small fee of £3 per submission.
We have thought carefully about this decision and hope it strikes a fair balance between accessibility and sustainability. Every penny raised will go directly towards keeping the magazine running — supporting our publishing activities, paying for production costs, and maintaining our online submission system.
We remain deeply committed to keeping our magazine open, inclusive, and affordable, and we hope this small change will help ensure we can continue to publish and support poetry for years to come.
Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of our work.
— Trustees, Magma Poetry

SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS
We accept work that has also been submitted to other publications but require you to notify us immediately if the work is accepted for publication elsewhere. Your work must be withdrawn via Submittable, or for partial withdrawals, add a note to your submission.
*
If your work has featured recently in Magma: please send us your poems, but be aware that we may want to give the space to new or different voices.

Poems published in the magazine may also be published on this website and as a PDF version for Exact Editions. Poems remain the copyright of their author. Contributors receive a copy of the issue in which they appear and and can purchase further copies at a discount. They may also be invited to read at the issue’s launch reading.
Reviews
We review books and pamphlets of poetry in the magazine, on our blog and in our e-newsletters. We regret that only poetry by living authors can be reviewed, although new translations of poetry of the past can be considered. Books and pamphlets for review must be sent to our Reviews Editor, Aoife Lyall. Contact her in the first instance at reviews@magmapoetry.com
