Originally from south-east England,I came to a remote part of western Japan to teach English for a couple of years in 1992.On my first day at work,I met Kenichi,and we got married in 1997.We live in his home town,a stones throw away from the in-laws, with our 2 young daughters who I am doing my best to bring up bilingually despite the odds stacked against us.
I started a blog a few years ago as a birthday present for my dad.I use it to keep in touch with friends and family and also to have some way of letting off some mental steam.And it’s a great way of keeping a personal diary.

My husband and I met online many years ago and I moved to the US from South Africa to the US to be with him. The initial adjustment was rather difficult, but I’ve adjusted and love my life here in Texas.

Hi. I am a new gaijin dad to a boy who is half-Japanese. We live in Japan and I ran across your blog through google. I can’t wait to read through your blog as I too am anxious on how to raise my kid in a bilingual, bi-cultural environment. He is barely 2 weeks old and he is already barraged by 3 different languages (4 if you include Hakata-ben).
We just registered him today and that in itself was a mountain of stress, what with the Japanese name, non-japanese name, his family name being that of my wife, etc. Thinking about it just stresses me out!
