Living El Paso to Living City Project – Come Join Me

It’s an idea that I’ve wanted to put into action for a while and finally was able to do so. El Paso will still be a main focal point but I want to highlight cities, people, & ideas from around the world. As El Paso continues its transformation as a city, it’s important to realize that we have an opportunity to learn from others as we grow.
Over the years, I’ve found that I have a deep fascination with what makes a city or an area unique. It’s the people, culture, history, the entrepreneurs, policy, & more that make a city what it is (Good or Bad). Living City Project is my way of exploring not only El Paso but cities and regions across the world. My hope and goal is that we can learn from each other through the sharing of ideas and that there is implementation of these ideas in communities around the world.
Remember, people make up a community and an involved community will help make their city a better place for everyone!
My name is David and I’m living El Paso.
Remember, you can now find me at Living City Project and LCP has the full archive of all the posts over at LEP.

We have sun so often that I decided to give the clouds some recognition. Being in a community that is sun kissed nearly everyday, it was rather nice to experience the opposite and not put on sunscreen….oh wait….you can still get burned even when its cloudy, oh well.

I made my way out to campus Saturday morning and captured a few pictures to share with everyone. This campus is really turning into one of the more beautiful campuses in the State of Texas. Having President Natalicio in her position for such a long time has really been a godsend for UTEP. She is a step above the rest and when the time comes to replace her, it will be difficult. Enough of my commentary, here are the pictures.

Paul Foster was elected the chairman of the University of Texas System Board of Regents. While I’m sure El Paso & UTEP will always be on his mind, his new role is bigger than just our city.
The UT system has hit some rough patches lately, particularly in Austin, hopefully Paul Foster will be able to right the ship and continue to be a shining star for El Paso.

Mesa (79902 zip.) The restaurant is still in its soft opening (Grand Opening is this coming Friday, I believe.)
The place was very clean and traffic was slow when we arrived around 630, again, this is probably because its in a soft opening and a lot of people haven’t realized what great pizza is waiting for them here.
Our server was professional and very friendly. Our group ordered 3 pizzas and a sandwich. The pizzas are 10 inches and a nice size for one person….definitely could feed 2 people but you might be feeling a tad hungry if you go on an empty stomach and split.
We ordered the Kale, Mexican, and Chicken Teriyaki pizza. The sandwich was a version of a cheese steak I believe. After everyone sampled eachothers dish, we all agreed that we liked 3 out of 4. The loser of the group was the Kale Pizza. It wasn’t that it was poorly made, it just lacked flavor. Chef Rulis, if you by chance happen to come across this post…maybe add an option of thick cut bacon on it…because everyone loves bacon, especially this guy.
The other pizzas were on point….if you go, gotta try the Mexican Pizza, it doesn’t get much better than that one. The Chicken Teriyaki was kickin’ as well…especially when you put on some of the wasabi.
In the end, UnRulis gets an A from Living El Paso. I will definitely be going back because there are a lot of other dishes I need/want to try.
p.s. we got Menchies afterwards and come to find out…Wednesday is free Waffle Cone day….pretty exciting if you ask me.
