This post is concerning the National Day of Prayer. I personally see no reason whatsoever why we should not be allowed to have one. I don’t think that by having a day of prayer that we are asking anyone to violate any amendments to the Constitution. I think that every faith that is represented in our country prays so by having this we are only asking people of all faiths to pray on that day.
Now as for the Constitution, can anyone tell me please where it says anything in the first amendment about separation of church and state? Actually what it reads regarding religion is as follows: “Congress shall make no law regarding the establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” That is only the part regarding religion.
Personally I think that as Christians we should pray daily and not just on one day during the year but I see no reason either why Christians or any religion for that matter cannot join together on one day a year to pray. Now while I do not follow any religion other than the Christian religion that does not mean that I cannot respect another person’s right to follow their own version. I believe that Christ died for my sins that I might be saved and I believe that the only way to Heaven is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Now having said that I will say that my Bible teaches me that I am to love others as God has loved me so in order to do that I must love everyone. That does not mean that I have to agree with their beliefs or condone their actions but I must love them.
Now back for the last word on prayer. This is from the Bible and I only use the King James Version, Matthew 26 v 41: “Watch and pray that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
There are quite a few verses in the Bible that speak of prayer but I especially like that verse because it is so very true. So Christians let’s all pray for this nation and for our leaders that God will touch their hearts and that our leaders will open their hearts and minds to God. We as a nation have fallen away from our Christian heritage.
